Has Obama just handed the moon to China?
The First Post ^ | 02/05/10 | Tim Edwards

President Barack Obama's proposal to cut the $81bn funding for Nasa's Constellation manned spaceflight programme spells the end of America's attempt to return people to the moon by 2020. If Congress approves the budget, it almost certainly means the next people to land on the moon will be Chinese. Some people are saying this is a serious strategic error.

And they aren’t going to let any stupid international treaties get in their way while they’re there.

I thought the moon was ours? Our flag is still up there, right? Why do we need to go back?

Some people are saying this is a serious strategic error.

From the POV of Zero's boss, George Soros, and his long-term goal of destroying American strength and prestige, it's exactly what the doctor ordered.

Meh, not seeing an issue with China getting to the moon for the first time versus the US getting there for the 7th time. We should be targeting landing on Mars.

LOL! NASA employees must be mostly Dems because Suzanne Kosmas is their House member and she hides she is a Dem on her web site., And NASA loves that slappy happy hillbilly a**h*le Bill Nelson.

Keep voting Dem NASA goofballs. NASA was good when the Germans ran it.

The moon isn’t the only thing he is handing to China.

No... because China has no use for it either.

Let them waste the money first like we did!

It’s not so much the cutting of funding to a pointless project (especially in the condition we’re in), it’s the
idea that NASA can be ‘kept busy’ by a likely SUBSTITUTION of its focus on projects that will
analyze and monitor space for data he still thinks will
confirm Climate Change and help his Agenda in this area.
As far as I’m concerned, they’re both pointless.
On OUR side AND China’s , this looks like just more saber-rattling of the sort that I grew up in during the 60s, with
FEAR being the driving motivation behind the buildup of nuclear armaments. NOW we know we could be wiped out with a half-dozen dirty bombs.

Is it possible Obummer doesn’t want to mine and develop the Helium3 there? Supposedly, it could be used to more efficiently power nuclear plants.

“No... because China has no use for it either.

China is not stupid, and neither are the Russians and Indians - they know what US Luddites do not understand or refuse to see - that the future of the species lies in space with exploration, natural resource harvesting, and species survival in the long term - long term thinking is something alien to Americans but not elsewhere - especially in China.

In the short term, they understand that their ultimate national defense is holding the high ground - the Moon, the Lagrange Points and Mars.

The citizens of those countries will begin to enjoy a living standard that Americans will only dream about, huddled in their soon to come dusty villages and ruined cities (like Detroit).

Like now, US children who dream of going into space, will look elsewhere for jobs, and slowly the best and brightest will emigrate.

“And what is to stop China from claiming sovereignty over the moon?”

and the Lagrange points and Mars.

Nothing. Luddites will be safe and smug that we did not waste our money, politicans will introduce non-binding resoultions, and we will stand in bread lines.

H3 in abundance is the fuel for thermonuclear power plants - not your average nuclear power plant.

H3 is what can make thermonuclear power plants a reality. When China, India, Russia control that fuel source, as well as being able to mass produce highly efficient, very cheap solar panels - the US economy will disappear over night.
