I hear things.
So where is the first place they look? Under the bed?
Big Sis.
Better watch what you post or ATFE will be at your door the next time there is a “man-made disaster”.
“counciling” ?
I just wanted to be a “first responder” to 2/2/10....If’n ACORN took over the internet.....or sumthin....
My son was a first Responder to 9/11 as he was in boot camp in Georgia on thanksgiving 2001.....I gotta compete.
They’re not black. They’re dark green. They just look black.
I thought it was me as I usually do with anything tech related.
Your post actually made me feel better.
Or in the freezer with the thousands in cash.
Everything appears to be ok now. Earlier it took a long time and I got repeated notices that the page would not display and reasons why that might be the case.
I could clean my browsing history and it would display sometimes, but back to the same problem when I tried to view the next page, browse or post.
I also had the problem with displaying recent posts that you mentioned.
Also noticed that I would get script errors when I searched for political info on the web using Bing.
This has been happening here and on MSN, off and on, for the past week. Also proxy errors, and service temporarily unavailable notices.
It only happens, so far, when I’m connected to FR.
Yea, but if your a semi-hoarder, they will never find anything...watch the show Hoarders......they even find dead animals under all the crap.....
Very troubling.
What would it take to have a couple of new servers ready to go on standby 24/7 . . . either automatically or ready for John to key them into service???
FR IS CRITICAL TO THE SURVIVAL OF AS MUCH OF THE REPUBLIC AS WE CAN HELP TO SURVIVE COMING FESTIVITIES.
WE REALLY NEED FR AS HEALTHY AND ROBUSTLY FAULT TOLERANT AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE TO MAKE HERE, IMHO
even if we need another FREEPATHON FOR BACKUP SERVERS????
I have been investigating this problem and I think that I have discovered the cause. Whenever FreeRepublic has problems, there is a strange frequency emmination coming from somewhere in Central Texas. After a careful search of possible sources, using GPS, Google Earth, and a certified divining rod, all evidence pointed to a certain Kinko’s location in Waco, Texas. What is really weird about all of this, is that the Kinko’s have tried to disguise their identify by calling themselves a FedEx store. Do not be misled. This Kinko’s store is directly channeling communications from Dan Rather and through a super secret reverse polarity process, is directly goobering up Jim Jackson’s servers out there in California. You don’t need to believe me, details will be broadcast tonight on Coast to Coast.
Jim's Post 65
"A bolshevik plot....taken straight out of the book."
That could be a big part of it. DOS kiddies like to screw with us.
By the way, for those who are wondering about FR's hardware, my understanding is that we have about a dozen servers at the data center. About half of them are dedicated to handling Free Republic back-end processing. We also have a couple front-end servers directing the traffic and balancing the load, a couple database servers, an administrative server, a secure server, and a real-time database backup server. We have two main IP's, one as a standby if the first goes down. We also have some older servers that John uses for backup and development.
Theoretically, we have a fail-safe system. The "fail" seems to be working great, now we're working on perfecting the "safe" part.
It appears that our current series of crashes have to do with our traffic load. It appears that our servers begin overloading and first one crashes (by becoming completely jammed and failing to respond) then the next, and the next, etc, until the entire system and all backups fail to respond. That's when we have to start rebooting. And we've had some problems recently with our rebooting process.
We do not know yet why we are overloading. We have been able to handle several times our normal load with no problem. We do not rule out DOS attack, but cannot find anything in the logs to identify it. John will continue trying to isolate the problem, but we do not feel at this time that it is for a lack of server power.
All I can say is, please bear with us. We've experienced these kinds of systems problems before whether hardware, software, balancing or Bolshevik, and have always been able to work through or around them eventually.
God willing, we will persevere!
Someone hit the abuse button on a post by Jim Robinson and the admin mod thugs wrassled him to the ground. The only thing keeping FR going is Jim’s cosmic brain waves willing it to continue. Thus, the break in service.
That is all.
