Theres a particularly nasty virus making the rounds right now. Its informally known as the Antivirus Live virus, as it bombards your PC with scary, real-looking security warnings and masquerades as a program Antivirus Live (pictured) that can protect and repair your system.

I got a similar virus about a month ago. Basically it took over the pc. Every program I tried to run would come back with a message saying “the exe file is infected” and then tried to blackmail you into buying “the cure”.
Finally was able to boot up in safe mode and reload the OS. It was a pain in the rear. I hope these crooks get caught.
My PC has a manual power switch in the back (literally on-off) and if I sense my PC is being hijacked, I turn off the power, unplug the internet and reboot then run my anti-virus first thing. It will usually catch it and remove but, just in case, I look to see what the root of folder/program came from and delete it (normally it is in your browser cache if you catch it fast enough).
Before restarting, clean out your browser cache and cookies. Run a regestry cleaner too if you have one.
Oh, and get a second browser. Most of the bad boys are programmed to hit IE so you can bypass it by using another browser.
That’s my advice, anyway, to those reading along.
I got it last week too...instead of Windows’ antispyware I have two other programs running constantly, hence I knew the “warning” was bogus. I immediately shut down, restarted in safe mode, ran System Restore, then a SuperAntiSpyware scan. Problem solved.
question, we have avg but we keep getting these notices that there are no longer updates for free versions. If we can’t update doesn’t that leave us open for virus attack? suggestions and are there any other free versions. Money is very tight so the free version has been good for us. Thanks
I do not have a answer for you,i got those notices as well and my friend told me to uninstall it and then go to AVG and get the free version again..The purpose was to stop those annoying notices.
I also have spybot search and destroy and have no trouble..
I would check with some of the tech guys.
