Whatever Happened to Those Old Westerns
Thos Old Westerns ^ | The Good Ol' Days | Many

These sure bring back the memories. Turn the speakers up a little to drown out the background noise and enjoy a few minutes of nostalgia.

As long as we are showing off our age, I remember when the movie fee went from 15 cents to 25 cents up in old Klamath town. I thought I wouldn't be able to go to the movies any more. How was a little kid going to get a quarter?

I’m not a huge western fan, but the online classic radio station I listen to plays Gunsmoke, Gene Autry & Dale Evans, Fort Laramie (with Raymond Burr), the Cisco Kid, Red Ryder, and other westerns. Some are better than others, but you get a chance to hear these shows on a regular basis if that’s your thing.

I like the old time radio shows as well. Gunsmoke had some great radio episodes.

Tarzan was another surprise for me. Much different than the 1940’s Hollywood plots where the bad guys were Nazis, sadistic poachers, Jewel thieves, and the like. The radio shows has hideous creatures and monsters that Tarzan had to battle.

I was born too late (1958) to catch most of these show, but thankfully there is a resurgence of interest in them. They are bringing these back on CD and tape, and radio and satellite stations that devote time to play them.

HUGE western fan here!

HBO's 'Deadwood' was fantastic.

I'm a big Sergio Leone fan and 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' is maybe my favorite western of all time - how can you top Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef???. I also recommend Leone's 'Duck you sucker' (surprisingly good) and the Fistful of Dollars movies with Clint Eastwood (the Man with No Name).

The recent remake of '3:10 to Yuma' was very good.

I have 'How the West was won', 'The Outlaw Josie Wales', The Magnificent Seven', 'Once upon a time in the west' (ultimate bad guy Henry Fonda), and the remake of Appaloosa all lined up for weekend viewing on the new Blu Ray :)

Thanks, I sent the link home.

I have a large library I ordered from radiospirits.com over the last 10 years but its all cassete tape and I have nothing left that can play them, and to replace them all with CD would cost a fortune. I knew of a few sites that have shows you could stream but the selections were few. And satelite you have to listen to what they have on at the time which may not interest you. I’ll check out the site you recomended.

My favorite shows are the comedies, like Abbott & Costello, Life of Riley, Duffy’s Tavern, and Fibber Mcgee & Molly.

I always liked the Cisco Kid. He was a sharp dresser and the stories were a lot of fun. Pancho was the perfect side kick too. “Oh Pancho! Oh Ceesco! Hee hee hee”

1930? I have been telling my FReeper FRiends that you were born during the Great Earthquake of 1906. Plus you should be warned I went out and bought my neighbors 1990 C1500 with the SS454 Package and we’ll get together on I-5 for a grudge race soon..

If you love old movies you must surely be a Dan Duryea fan. He must have made a hundred movies. Not westerns but good old time movies. And that fat guy who played Charlie Chan. I can’t remember his name but his movies were all over the TV when I was a kid.

I was born during the ‘06 quake, I just skipped ahead.

what is this: “C1500 with the SS454 Package”?

SS454 sounds like a GMC engine.
