Married Women '4lbs Heavier Than Unmarried Counterparts' Women really do let themselves go when they get married according to a new study which found that they are 4lbs heavier than their unmarried counterparts.
By Chris Irvine 24 Jan 2010 The study, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, also found that they are 9lbs heavier if she has a baby.
Queensland University in Australia, who conducted the research, followed 6,000 women aged between 18 and 23 over a 10 year period ending in 2006. Each woman periodically completed a survey with questions about weight, height, age, physical activity and alcohol consumption among others.
It found that a 10st woman gained 11lbs if she was single and childless, but she would be 15lbs heavier if she had a partner, and 20lbs heavier if she had both a partner and a baby. The researchers attributed the weight gain to cohabiting women eating unhealthier food because of their partner, while they also have less time to exercise.
Professor Annette Dobson, who co-authored the study along with Professor Wendy Brown and Richard Hockey, said: "This is a general health concern as obesity rates continue to increase.

Gee, a women gain weight when she gets married...stop the presses.
>>> The researchers attributed the weight gain to cohabiting women eating unhealthier food because of their partner <<<
Are all our researchers this stupid?
So now women can complain that their husbands and boyfriends contribute to the obesity problem.
In addition to everything else which women complain about relating to the men in their lives, they can add this issue.
>>> We must look at ways to prevent health risks by focusing on the times when women need to be especially careful.” <<<
Must be another misandrist (man hater).
Warning women about moving in with men !
and against having babies with them !!!
Oh noooes.
..and men gain 30lbs. ROFL
Have they dona a study on married men?
I won’t hold my breath waiting.
Is that overall or per year?
As always with stories like this, I can see my grandmother standing in front of me, smacking her palm against her forehead and announcing, “What, they needed college to find this out?”
Not my wife! She does Yoga and Zumba and at 53 is as slim as when we first met over 30 years ago! (5’ 7” about 120 lbs) - and two kids!
There’s two things I won’t tolerate from a woman. Gaining too much weight and not being able to be trained to leave the toilet seat up. I also expect them to do their best to stay as pretty as when I married them. /s
Some of us guys like a little extra meat on the women.
That emaciated fishbone look doesn’t turn us on. Don’t misread here though—not into the blubbery whale look either... just a few ticks to the right on the scale is
just fine.
considering most single women intentionally underfeed themselves because they have the mistaken impression that concentration camp chic is still in style, I’m glad to hear that married women are better-fed, even more so if they’ve a child to look after.
Men, like women only gain weight if they allow them selfs to become SLOBS!
""You done had a baby Miss Scarlett, you ain't never gonna be no 18 ½ inches again."
Must’ve been some pot-bellied misogynist or some blue stocking half ton feminist that figured this out.
I’m fat, I’ll blame it on my husband and my babies! They shoved french fries, pasta with alfredo sauce, and biscuits slathered in lard down my throat!
Jeebus!
I would suspect its because once married, women get a little less stressed about damaging their prospects and can actually relax and enjoy life instead of starving themselves. Especially if their husband is supportive of them.
Additionally, It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if women who aren’t married have to work longer hours to support themselves on a single income, and run themselves a little more ragged.
Wonder how much I can score from a college who wants me to qualify that with hard #’s?
4 lbs thats a error in the scale. Can’t claim that for nine lbs. Babies add weight, wow who would have thunk it.
If it were only 4lbs, there would be no issue.
