A cat which became famous for catching the same bus every day for four years has been run over and killed - while crossing the road to catch its daily lift.
Crafty Casper died in a hit and run accident as he tried to board the No3 service.
He hopped on the bus around 10am every morning and sat on the back seat throughout its entire 11 mile route.
The freeloading Feline would travel around his home city of Plymouth, Devon, for up to an hour before arriving back at the same stop.
But after an estimated 20,000 miles on the bus Casper was killed crossing the road to catch his daily ride.
Devastated owner Susan Finden, 65, said whoever ran over her cat failed to stop and help him.
She said: 'Many people knew Casper, who loved everyone.
'He enjoyed the bus journeys. Sadly a motorist hit him and did not stop.
'Casper died from his injuries. He will be greatly missed - he was a much loved pet who had so much character.
'Thank you to all those who befriended him.'
During his regular trips the 12-year-old cat passed an historic dockyard and naval base, a city centre, several suburbs and a red light district.

I remember this story from a couple of years ago. Sad, RIP Casper.
They should put casper’s urn on that bus.
: (
Hate to hear stories like this. R.I.P. Crafty Casper.
We lost a smart one.
Why do these stories make my allergies flar up
PING
Cats have intelligence and IMHO souls.
Casper, please say “hi” to my beloved Neysa and Musica. When I get to the Rainbow Bridge, you will enjoy us human souls arguing (good naturedly) for you as well sweetheart.
I love eccentric people and animals that make life interesting in a good way. I am not sure what happens to a cat when it dies, but may it ride that big bus in the sky.
I never knew ye' but I'll miss ya.
Soooooo sad, :( Ketteh went to meet ‘Ceiling Cat’. May he wrap him in his paws.
I’ve had 16 cats through my lifetime. Just love ‘em (dogs, too). They’re ALL unique and give us so much love (and we reciprocate) the short time they’re here. God love ‘em.
I got lumber at this yard which had a yard cat it spent most of its time on the order desk it was one of the neatest cats ever the owner big hulk of a man and a real hard ass but likeable went in one morning he is sitting on a stack of lumber balling his eyes out the cat got run over that morning so sad
That was some cat...
This is heartbreaking, but it was a matter of when, not if. Roads are meant for automobiles and human pedestrians, not unattended pets.
Poor Casper, I suppose now he is a friendly ghost.
That was just like my dad. HATED cats. Then I caught him feeding shad and ‘caviar’ after he’d come back from fishing and would ‘clean a mess’. The cat never left. That started our ‘cat population’. Hehe! He used to gripe like HELL.....but he had a good heart. ;-)
Very sad. RIP little buddy.
“Ive had 16 cats through my lifetime.”
I have also had many cats, but do not consider myself as a “cat fancier”.
In the US, I had maybe one at a rime, but here in the Philippines, I now have about ten.
Eight are still kittens, now into puberty.
Some look very much like Casper, but some are pure white.
