A new report by the the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says that 11 people were arrested for being armed and drunk during the state's 2009 nine-day deer hunting season. Five of them were repeat offenders.
Game wardens also arrested 29 convicted felons carrying firearms -- a big increase compared to previous years. It's not illegal for felons to purchase hunting permits in Wisconsin, but they can't carry guns.
On the bright side, hunters managed not to kill each other this year, although a handful of them shot themselves or each other one way or another. Wisconsin DNR says the 2009 season was the fourth safest on record.
Spear hunting is legal in Alabama.
I still haven’t gotten confirmation on whether or not a blaze orange loin cloth is required.
Nice work!
Any drinking should be saved for the campfire at night. I won’t hunt with someone if he or she is not 100% sober. I won’t even hunt with someone who has a bad cold and is taking meds.
Couple states out east too. We had some threads on it a couple years ago.
Well if he came back from a hunting trip to Vernon County with some outrageous tale of being charged by a 30 point buck which knocked him over, took his rifle up in his antlers, and slammed it into a tree, then there's a very good chance I ran into him that day.
Seriously though, this idiot was hunting on Posted private property and was so drunk I couldn't wake him up even though I was literally screaming at him.
I figured all the noise pretty much shot the day of hunting right in the butt so I decided to have some fun.
I was sorely tempted to keep that fine Weatherby shooting iron but that would have been an act of theft. So I settled for an act of Damage to Property.
Even if I got caught I figured the Judge would get a real kick out of it and let me settle for some cheezy misdemeanor.
But as I said I sure wish I could have seen the look on his face when he woke up.
We are members of the local gun club shooting range and number one rule of gun club is NO DRINKING
alcohol and guns do not mix, not safely.
Wonder if said hunter noted that his front sight was off to the right some when he shouldered the weapon.
I live here in northern Wisconsin (Adams County). This is what you expect from deer hunters. Most are just happy to get away from the little women for a few days. So alittle hunting, lots of drinking and of course, the local bars ship in the strippers for this big Wisconsin event. It’s too bad because there are also alot of hunting families out there in our forests. I dont hunt but the deer are in my yard on a daily basis.
:D
You can even do it by crawling thru the woods on your stomach like John Kerry used to do while sneeking up on them as long as you have a deer license........
What if the hunter was having a diabetic reaction?
I’m all for guns and heaven knows, I’ve wet my whistle once in a while.
But overboard drunk? In the field with a loaded weapon?
Sounds like it’s get-smacked-upside-their-head time!
Let's run down the checklist:
Empty Blackberry Brandy bottle? Check.
Subject smells like alcohol and blackberries? Check
Good enough for me.
Fair enough.
Alcohol and blackberries sounds like something that will get you some black bear lovin.
That’s why they were arrested.
No it isn't, I've hunted in Adams County, most people consider it central not northern, for years, and hunters there aren't a bunch of drunks. In my experience most are locals, not tourists getting away from their wives. And the strip clubs are there 12 months of the year, for the pople who live there. Swinger clubs too, despite residents attempts. We had several threads on that a few years ago.
Yet another reason why sometimes divorce is a wonderful thing.
