Robert Bobby Charles Guidry, the gifted, reclusive southwest Louisiana songwriter who crafted hits for Fats Domino, Frogman Henry and Bill Haley & the Comets, died early Thursday after collapsing at home in Abbeville, his manager said. He was 71.

Leonard Chess didn't know he was white when he signed Bobby to the label.
Joe Cocker, Delbert McClinton, Lou Rawls, Ray Charles, Tom Jones, Kris Kristofferson, Rita Coolidge, Etta James, Junior Wells, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Bo Diddley, David Allan Coe, and UB40 also recorded his songs.
There was a real good overview of Bobby Charles' history in a recent issue of Blue Suede News. Bob Dylan was a fan of his songwriting.
