I had the same question! It’s probably a good time to rethink the name of that music festival.
Geez I'm sorry. It looked like it might have been good too. ;-)
Salt Lake City?
Jazz these days is in the eye of the beholder (or is it ear.) “Jazzfests” are, increasingly, nothing of the sort. The only true jazz genius today is Jessica Williams. She’s a pianist you have to hear to believe and, even then, you can’t.

We have some good stuff here in Jakarta! Come on by, I’ll take you to the Black Cat ....
I blame Mrs. Robinson!
(So here’s to you...)
Indeed. Jazz?!?! That’s almost funny.
“Where’s the jazz?”
You are free to boycott this, for its lack of purity.
However one man’s jazz might be another man’s pop, or Blues, or R&B, or rock.
Van Morrison spans a wide range of musical classifications.
He will tell you his influences include American blues, jazz, country, etc.
I think Simon showed on the Graceland album his range in styles.
Not in New Orleans, it appears. Maybe in Mobile?
I thought Simon and Garfunkel was dead.
The full name of the festival is the "New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival". They expanded years ago to include Gospel, Blues, Cajun, Rock, etc.
I went to the Festival several times in the '80s. It was a blast! They had about 8 stages performing music. You could wonder from stage to stage and enjoy a variety of music, while enjoying some of the fantastic food.
Don't know how the festival is after Katrina, but if its like the festivals of old, you definitely should visit.
Half the time jazz sounds like random notes and, more irritatingly, random keys to me. “Hey, it’s jazz!”, goes the excuse. Whatever. The other half of the time, jazz is the best music there is. So yeah - - jazz is in the ear of the beholder, for sure.
Here is a gift for everybody on this thread.
It is astounding.
