Everybody wants to know: what the heck happened to American education????? Why this race for mediocrity????
Here's the whole story in maybe 600 words. The shortest formulation I've been able to come up with.
Obama. Health care. Socialism. Pol Pot. Contempt. Bad education policy. John Dewey. It's all there.
(A column on American Chronicle. Title: "Here's What Happened to American Education--The Very Short Version")
Mediocrity is a disease. Government is the vector.
> Mediocrity is a disease. Government is the vector.
Precisely.
George Washington said, “Government is not eloquence; it is not reason; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant, and a fearsome master.”
Another (source unknown) said, “The only thing government is good at is killing people and breaking things.”
That is a good reason to keep the government as small as possible, and on a very, very short leash, limiting its activities to the national defense, which is, by definition, killing people and breaking things.
one thing for sure public education sucks in this country...my grandsons hair was cut up all over his head at school but no one saw anything....when i called the school to ask they told me they had 8 classes to corral (not to teach). they are the main promoters of childhood obesity...serving all junk food in the lunch room...and getting along with classmates is above academics....
IMHO, the Houston Independent School District went to hell in a handbasket due to:
1. Illegal Immigration
2. Collapse of the nuclear family and parental support / involvement
3. Lack of discipline in the classroom (admin. policy)
The solution can be presented in a short list.
Two parent homes established and promoted.
Truth distinguished from falsehood.
Wisdom distinguished from foolishness.
Work distinguished from sloth.
Love distinguished from selfishness.
Virtue distinguished from pragmatism.
Repeat in succeeding generations.

I’ll add to this equation:
The Frankfurt School + Columbia University + N.E.A.
