We are doing our annual review of emergency preparedness supplies and procedures. One possible situation is closure of commercial ammunition sources during a civil unrest situation.
We would appreciate opinions on the most likely and second most likely available hand gun ammo in such a situation.
9mm and 22 rimfire.

Shotgun shells and .22 everybody who hunts has em.
Whoa! Cute!
Yep ... many is the time I’ve gandered about 50 yards away and thought “if I could just throw some fire over there”.
agreed plus you can get 500 rounds of 22 ammo for less than $20

Who is “we”?
While 9mm and .22 long rifle will be the “most plentiful”, reliance upon securing your resources from a rapidly dwindling supply would be folly.
Lay in several bricks of .22 long rifle and many 50 rd. boxes of 9mm. Of course this assumes you have the firearms to digest such loads.
But remember one thing, as has been said before, a pistol is only for shooting your way to your rifle.
And in a "SHTF" situation, there will be plenty of both laying all over the ground.
Any needed ammo should be in your CLOSET, not sitting on a store shelf! Don’t think for a moment that Hussein’s stormtroopers won’t demand that stores of all kind stop the sale of ammunition. In fact, don’t be surprised when trucks roll from FFL holder to FFL, cleaning out their inventories. We no longer live in a free country and if you are not heavily armed with several thousand rounds of ammo for every caliber weapon you own, you’d better get it done.
9mm, 38 special and .22 long rifle.
ping to 4
When the shelves are bare of 9mm, .45 and .38/.357 there is always .40 sitting alone on the shelf.
I have long and short weapons in the same chambering, learned that from the cowboys!!!
I have stockpiled what i need. does not matter as much what will be available when SHTF. I even have some caliber in my closet I don’t have a gun for just to barter.
Dream on. Buying 40S&W was hell this year - 2009. I’ve still got a backorder from 4 months ago I’m waiting to be filled.
