Is anyone else been having problems with Firefox freezing up on them? not shutting down? not responding?
I remember when I first started using Firefox, it ran rock solid. I happilynupdated to newer versions when they became availiable. But over the last handful of versions, i've found that it has been freezing up and not reponding, with an increasing frequency. And with each new vwersion, it's mostly bug and security fixes.. but I just loaded up thne newest version today, and in less than a hour, I found myself, one again, having to use the task manager to shut the non responding Firefox prg down.
Is anyone else expiriencing this?
I had firefox for years & it worked great until a few months ago.
I loaded google chrome.....works great
Mine is perfectly stable under Win XP.
I cannot speak to Vista.
Not sure you would have better luck with IE8.
I tried it for a couple of days and decided it to was pretty slow.
It has been terrible the past couple of months. I a bunch of freeze ups. They are fixing to lose me.
It’s not just you. I have an iMac now, but used to run Firefox on my old laptop. I was having the very same problems that you’re experiencing.
Something to consider...
P.S. I like your tagline.
Mine’s stable, but slower than molasses. I tried the new Opera and it was much faster. But I had issues with fonts and tabs. I finally removed it.
Uninstall FireFox, then download and re-install it.
For technical reasons, I use several browsers on several OSes.
Firefox tends to be the most stable, especially with lots of tabs open. (IE8 is a slug, by the way.)
Extensions and add-ons are another matter. I’d suggest you disable those and see if the situation improves. If not, uninstall/reboot/reinstall the whole thing, as it may have become corrupted in some way.
There could be other stuff going on in your system too, unrelated to Firefox.
Yes, my Firefox runs poorly under XP.
Opening tabs uses lots of memory - I only have 256 mgs - then it bogs down. I have to reboot often.
Java sucks.
I had a problem with system shut downs and Firefox when I had one version of AVG anti-virus.
I changed to avast! and the problem went away.
I am running Firefox 3.5.4.
My laptop is in dire need of a complete reinstall, but yes I’ve had problems with Firefox (or add-ins?) I went back to an older version (3.0.15), but it is still eating memory. Pause, wheeze, crash, whatever.
I clicked on your link and my other 4 firefox windows went ‘POOF’ so yes, it is driving me crazy....
My only problem is every time I start Firefox my bookmark toolbar is shrunk down to the little expander arrow. If I bring up the toolbar customize dialog it fixes itself, don’t have to change anything just have to open the dialog and close it. It’s getting boring doing those mouse clicks every time I open FF though.
Started having problems about a month ago
In fact, just had it crash 10 minutes ago (AS IT DOES ABOUT 10 TIMES A DAY) and fortunately, it allows to restore previous session, but is a pain in the a*s!
THE BIGGER PROBLEM is a "redirecting virus/trojan" which when trying to access a site (after having searched and clicking site) I get an "Address Not Found" or redirected to newserversearch.com/, which I've learned is just about IMPOSSIBLE to remove.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!!
You probably have plugin problems.
No difficulties with 3.5.6 here (Linux and XP; some older machines).
Having the same problems that you mentioned. Very frustrating.
Yeah mine has been freezing on startup lately. Having to wait a minute before I can actually drop down the address bar. I still like it better than IE. And FireFTP is a nice little plugin.
