Well, here it is, the final game of the 2009 college football season. For much of the bowl season, I've had to work, get my car fixed, and Google search any insignificant question and computer problem my grandparents call me about. (You would think with their age and guile they'd have the answers to various things readily available. You would think). So needless to say, this has kept me from my assigned college football commenting duties. For that I apologize, but tonight I will get the festivities going. So without further ado...
The BCS National Championship Game: Alabama vs. Texas (8:00 pm) From the moment this matchup was set, I've been pondering what the key to this game should be and ultimately what it will be. Could it be the Longhorn offensive line having a chance to contain the legendary Mt. Cody? How about the Tide secondary and what they'll have to do to contain Jordan Shipley? And let us not forget the mystery of chessboxing that could occur between Nick Saban and Mack Brown. But I keep hearing that the Tide are going to make mince meat of the Horns, and that kind of ignores recent history. What did we learn from the last time we saw Texas in a title game? We should have learned not to count them out, right? So keep this in mind before we coronate a team in a game like this. In my usual neutral third party kind of observational style though, that doesn't necessarily mean that the Tide aren't every bit as good as advertised. I happen to think so, for whatever that's truly worth.
Congrats to Boise State for a 14-0 season!
Still waiting on my brother and my Dad to email me the pics they took from their little excursion to the Fiesta Bowl. I’ll have to post them either here or upload them to twitpic.com so those of you on the CF ping list can see them.
Yes great game - and the teams tonight will have a hard time matching up to the excitemnt of that one and the 2010 GMAC bowl!
Hook-Em!
I anticipate Alabama thumping the second-best-team in Texas pretty thoroughly. But no matter who wins this, the unanswered question will always be - could they have beaten Boise State?
Watch Bama stomp Texas tonight.
Texas has no concept of how they’re going to get whooped.
SEC all the way.
Well, let’s just say the Government Motors bowl was exciting, but I don’t think the talent level is comparable.........
ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TIDE!
The only mystery for me is will the Tide get a HOLDING call on their offensive line, which hasn’t been flagged for holding since October 3rd. That’s about 6 or 7 games, I think. Maybe there is something to the SEC league offices being in Birmingham?
Yeah, just like LSU whooped on the Nittanies.......
IMO, the key to a UT victory is shutting down the Bama run game. Not an easy task. And obviously, Bama is going to have to get to McCoy and Shipley for a Bama victory.
Should be a great match up ... I'm looking forward to it.
Thanks again for another great year of threads, pics, and previews! We really appreciate the effort you put out week after week here.
Go ahead and take the next 20 or so weeks off. :)
Sadly, you’ve probably hit upon the real deciding factor of this game, the officiating. It will be one-sided, but I would bet you can’t tell which way ... without checking the betting line. The game will be kept within the spread. Count on it.
McCoy has been very mediocore against good defenses, see OK and Nebraska. I expect him to get sacked 4 times and throw 2-3 picks. I would be very surprised if UT tops 17 points. The question is what ‘Bama offense shows one. The one that obliterated the Gators or the one that struggled against the likes of South Carolina and Tennessee.
What an ignorant thing to post! TCU is a very good, very big team. Boise beat them at their own game.
