Nokia asks court to bar U.S. imports of Apple's Macs, iPhones, iPods

Files second patent infringement suit; seeks to block most Apple hardware from entering U.S. Computerworld - Nokia Corp. last week asked a federal court to block Apple Inc. from importing virtually any current Apple hardware into the U.S., including products in the iPhone, iPod and Mac lines.

The lawsuit -- the second Nokia has filed against Apple in a patent war that broke out in October -- is nearly identical to the complaint the Finnish phone manufacturer filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) on Dec. 29. In the ITC complaint, Nokia also demanded that Apple be barred from bringing "all of Apple's electronic devices that infringe one or more claims of the Asserted Patents" into the U.S.

Nokia used similar language in its second lawsuit, filed Dec. 29 with a Delaware federal court. "Nokia prays for judgment and relief against Apple ... for a permanent injunction enjoining Apple, its officers, agents, servants, employees and all other persons in concert or participation with it from further infringement, contributory infringement, and inducement of infringement of the Asserted Patents," Nokia's lawsuit read.

Elsewhere in the filing, Nokia spelled out the seven patents it alleges Apple has infringed upon. For each, it claimed that only an injunction would stop Apple from further abuse. "Apple's acts have caused, and unless restrained and enjoined, will continue to cause, irreparable injury and damage to Nokia for which there is no adequate remedy at law," Nokia argued. "Unless enjoined by this court, Apple will continue to infringe the ... patent."

You never waste an opportunity to go on a windows thread and start throwing insults.

Please show me a Windows thread where an Apple advocate has insulted a Windows user on Freerepublic. I have challenged people who claim this numerous times and have yet to find these insulting comments any where near the level of vituperative level we receive from Windows fanatics on Mac threads... no where near. So, driftdiver, the ball is in your court. Show us. Where are these insults to Windows users. Show us.

You are the one who repeatedly come into threads on Apple topics and throw stink bombs, spit wads, made factoids, and falsehoods that have no basis in reality, and then blame us as though we somehow deserve your calumny and disingenuous misrepresentations. It's up to you, now, to prove it. Link to some of this Mac user nastiness Freerepublic Windows threads. Put up or shut up.

Show me the insults TO Windows users... not mere criticisms of Windows... insults to the users. Someone posting "Get a Mac" does not qualify as an insult. How about something even as mild as "Windows weenies" or calling Windows users "gay"? C'mon, if it's so prevalent, it should be easy for you to find examples all over Freerepublic.

There are plenty of examples and for you to deny is quite amazing. You want an exampe, go find a windows thread. There will be plenty, some from you most likely.

Apple derangement syndrome? No actually I find apple products to be useful and good even if they are over priced. I find the extreme leftist tilt of the company to be distasteful.

I also find the holier than thou attitude of Mac proponents on FR to be obnoxious and quite offensive in many cases. For example Star Travelers statement that all windows developers are unethical on another thread about a month ago.

BTW, have you seen the latest security patches released by apple?

Show them. Find them and link to them. Show us. You made the claim. Show us these insulting posts to Windows users. The challenge is to you to prove your claim... not for me to prove it for you. My claim is that it will be difficult to find very many at all.

Actually my next post states the very thing you say doesn’t exist. Star traveler insulted all windows developers without provocation. You were on the thread and if you deny it then you are a liar. Go do your own searches.

Most of the time it's in response to baseless claims and general apple hate.

“Most of the time it’s in response to baseless claims and general apple hate.”

In my experience the negative attitude towards apple has nothing to do with the company or products. Its the apple users that generate the animosity among non-apple users. The holier than thou attitude I referenced before.

The thread I was referencing where Star Traveler started calling all windows developers unethical. It happened to be a thread about a iPhone developer who was writing their own fake reviews and were banned by Apple.

The apple people on the thread sure didn’t back off the attacks. If anyones a troll its people like that.

You were saying ...

I also find the holier than thou attitude of Mac proponents on FR to be obnoxious and quite offensive in many cases.

I can understand the feeling that you're expressing, when you come across Macintosh users who are overjoyed at coming out from under the Window morass of software. Their exuberance must be disconcerting to one still stuck in the Windows morass... LOL...

But, who can blame them for being overjoyed at being able to use a computer as it should be used by people -- something made for people and not for geeks... :-)

But, you just have to realize that this is reality and if someone "wins the lottery" and is jumping up and down about their good fortune -- that no matter how offensive that is to you (for not having won the lottery and having to continue to work, in the meantime) -- it's not that they're trying to be offensive -- they are just too happy about what they've got.

For example Star Travelers statement that all windows developers are unethical on another thread about a month ago.

Well, I would say that the Windows platform having over 100,000 viruses (or even quite a bit more) -- says, all by itself -- that there are a whole boatload of "unethical Windows developers" out there... LOL...

Wow... Nokia is infringing on at least 12 Apple patents, but wants to bar Apple from importing their own goods based on a pretty lame case for 7 Nokia patents (that they are trying to charge Apple 10 times the rate they are charging other licensees to use the same technology).

I use to have a lot or respect for Nokia - they at one time were about the best you could get in cell phone technology. I guess they have decided to abandon what made them great and instead turn to insane licensing schemes that penalize the most successful out there instead of innovating themselves.

Name one computer that is 100% American made... and I don’t mean simply assembled of foreign-made parts.

He jumped because he was detained, beaten and had his apartment illegally searched.

Well - actually - in China, I don't believe there is anything remotely illegal about having your home searched by authorities... kind of standard operating procedure in such a communist nation.

Of course. I always post them to FR and ping the Mac Ping list. The last one for OS X.6.2 was release 2009-006 and was released November 9, 2009. There was also a Java security release on December 3, 2009 and a release for Safari 4.0.4 on November 11, 2009.

And your point is?

The thread I was referencing where Star Traveler started calling all windows developers unethical. It happened to be a thread about a iPhone developer who was writing their own fake reviews and were banned by Apple.

I don't believe that Star Traveler called all Windows developers unethical, although I'd have to review the comments... and the thrust of the thread was that once Apple was made aware of the unethical activity of the app developer, they were banned. Where were the attacks on WINDOWS users. Where were the ad hominem attacks on Windows users personally attacking them for attributes not related to Windows. C'mon find them, show us, Driftdiver... and show them in the context you claimed: insulsts to a Windows user from a Mac user in a Windows topical thread.

“I don’t believe that Star Traveler called all Windows developers unethical”

On thread which Star Traveler started - http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/2402373/posts?q=1&;page=1

His first post -

“Apple people/users don’t take kindly to any “scammer developers” in this computer space... :-)

A warning to any Windows developers (and their ilk...), don’t try scamming the system in the Apple computer space... “

To which I responded in post 3 “Thats rather offensive”

Star Travel posted in 14 “Yeah, an unfortunate consequence to having some Windows developers show up for the part”

and his post 18 “ LOL... I see you haven’t come across what the Apple users know about Windows and their developers... :-)

For such a crappy system, it’s no wonder that that sort of mentality will carry over into the Apple/Macintosh sphere... it’s take a few years to straighten them out... “

and

in post 57 he said “Where things go downhill into a deep hole to never get out of... is when “Windows” is mentioned... LOL... “

and in 58 “Just me being “pro-active” before the Windows users get “cranked up”... :-) “

Star Traveler and I have clashed before and this thread is a good example of who the real troll is. He even admits to baiting windows people for his personal entertainment.

So ya see Swordmaker, you asked for an example and thanks to Google you have the one you doubted me on. You even posted to this particular thread. So you were wrong.

Again, its not the company, product, OS, or overly high prices. Its the lame infantile snarky comments from mac people like Star.

So ya see Swordmaker, you asked for an example and thanks to Google you have the one you doubted me on. You even posted to this particular thread. So you were wrong.

Star Travler's comment is a fairly mild insult (and yes, I would classify it as an insult), to "some Windows developers," not to Windows users on a Windows thread and as such it is non-responsive to the challenge. Therefore, it is not what you claimed justifies your insulting behavior on Mac threads. In fact, Driftdiver, you have further mischaracterized what I challenged you to do. I did not ask for "an example," I asked for links to several examples on FreeRepublic ... and not for examples in MAC THREADS but examples from WINDOWS THREADS. In fact, let's look at exactly what I asked for: You specifically claimed that it was the insulting behavior of Mac users toward Windows users that you asserted was prevalent in all Windows oriented threads on FreeRepublic. I quote you verbatim, where you claim that I, personally, am guilty of insulting Windows users:

"You never waste an opportunity to go on a windows thread and start throwing insults."

To which I challenged you.

"Please show me a Windows thread where an Apple advocate has insulted a Windows user on Freerepublic. I have challenged people who claim this numerous times and have yet to find these insulting comments any where near the level of vituperative level we receive from Windows fanatics on Mac threads... no where near. So, driftdiver, the ball is in your court. Show us. Where are these insults to Windows users. Show us.

You have STILL not proved your point, driftdiver.

So. TO PROVE YOUR ASSERTION, Driftdiver, you have to link to:

In fact, Driftdiver, prove insulting behavior specifically from me to Windows users in Windows threads. I expect an apology to be forthcoming.
