You were saying ...

Just because a company maintains an office in the US does not mean its truly an American company.

It was the only office they had until they got bigger and wildly successful -- and then put in foreign offices...

I guess that's a bad thing, in your book, to expand to other countries and become big enough to have offices all over the place... LOL...

Well, so much for someone's limited experience in these matter... :-)

While manufacturing is down there are still many companies who manufacture in the US.

Yeah, for those companies, they just ship in the Mexicans, Indians and East Europeans... LOL...

So its your contention that they design and manufacture their products outside the US because they are so successful?

Oh, I know I’m peeing against the wind. I’m just one of those old guys who would rather ride a motorcycle or go hiking than have my brain wired to the internet 24/7.

If he is dealing with prototypes it would seem to indicate that not only aren’t they manufactured in the US. They aren’t even fully designed in the US.

They are designed in the US. Apple does work with the foreign company to implement the manufacture and maintain quality control. Naturally, the manufacturer would ship initial-run phones back to Apple for testing. The Chinese person in question was responsible for shipping a small number of those iPhones to Apple and lost track of one of them.

Yeah..., he preferred doing that -- to explaining what happened to Steve Jobs... LOL...

He jumped because he was detained, beaten and had his apartment illegally searched. He was under massive pressure, being branded a criminal, and could probably see his career disappearing for losing track of one simple phone.

In a way, Jobs is at fault. Apple is a big chunk of Foxconn's (who he worked for) business. Jobs is so secretive about products, and so vindictive towards companies that leak those secrets, that the security personnel at Foxconn panicked when one of the then-secret iPhones went missing.

I didn't know that anyone did that in the U.S. anymore... LOL... what I've been hearing is all this stuff about a "service economy" and so on... so that's news to me... they're still here?

Of course, aside from little dolls and trinkets and stuff by the Ma & Pa outfits.... we may have a corner on the market there... :-)

I think there are many people at Apple who would jump out the windows, first, before explaining that kind of thing to Steve Jobs... they know their life as they know it, is over... :-)

I have the definitive proof that the consumer in the United States does not care where their products come from. I did a count of how many "made in China" labels I saw at the last store I was at, and I "ran out of numbers" so I stopped... LOL...

I thought of a better way to do it -- and so I started counting how many are "not" made in China. I've still got fingers left on one of my two hands for that count... :-)

Sorry, it's very apparent that the consumer in the United States absolutely doesn't care...

Oh, and I should say that I have proof — right here on this board, Free Republic — that not only do consumers not even care about products made out of the United States — but, here on Free Republic — we have many FReepers who swear, absolutely, that they will never buy a product that is made in the United States that is made from a union member...

They prefer buying foreign to U.S. made products like that. So, what can you say or do — there’s no doubt about it — people in the U.S. prefer buying from anyone else — except from someone who made it here... LOL...

Your disdain for American made products is sadly very typical of lefties and apple lovers.

That is not at all what you seem like. I too ride a motorcycle and also run many Apple products usually bikers aren’t so closed minded.

Hey, that disdain for American products came about a long time before I became a paying consumer, and I'll guarantee you, I had no part in it. I was swamped by the tsunami of non-American products by the time I started buying for myself.

And in addition, you've got FReepers here, who (as I said) will absolutely never buy American-made products in which the higher wages go into the American workers pockets (God-forbid that, doncha know... LOL...), if those higher wages were secured by unions.

Now, you take those things all together and all the grousing and whining you want to do about it is about as good as "tilting at windmills"... LOL...

Tilting at windmills is an English idiom which means attacking imaginary enemies, or fighting unwinnable or futile battles.

But, by all means, have fun doing your "tilting" as it's good entertainment, if nothing else... :-)

BUT, to add to that, don't forget those who also (here on Free Republic) maintain that it's a company's right under capitalism to go wherever the materials and labor is cheaper -- and that definitely "ain't here" for sure... I mean, you can't detract from capitalism and free enterprise, because that's what made this country great -- doncha know...

And we would not want to interfere with capitalism and free enterprise, because that's the devil's work to interfere with that and/or put any government regulations in place that would limit it in any way with any company. We wouldn't be "America" any more if we did that, again, doncha know... :-)

I'll sit over on the sidelines, get some popcorn and watch the free-traders and capitilists argue it out with you... this ought to be fun... LOL...

Neither actually, I just don’t find Apple to be the infallible company that many others do.

So no condolences needed, save them for them brainwashed.

Oh... if you haven't seen him around here before -- yeah... he's definitely a troll on these Apple Macintosh or iPhone or other like product threads... LOL...

He comes around with great regularity to see who and what he can bash..., but it's always fun to "whack-a-mole" doncha know... :-)

Apple’s “infallibility” has little to do with your ignorant assertion that they aren’t a US-based corporation.

Continue trolling, though. I agree with Star Traveler, you’re pretty entertaining.
