I’ll have to look into one of those. Just got the new PS3 for our young one. That was the one “thing” we saved for this Holiday.

Agreed, PS3 blows the 360 out of the water. Wii however is without question cool.

I do wish developers other than Nintendo would push it more. Casual games are fine, and obviously it can’t compete visually with the HD systems, but it can do a lot more than most publishers are doing with it.

I’d replace the XBox with the PS3. The XBox was Microsoft’s usually poor initial entry into a market, basically a stripped-down 733 MHz Pentium III PC with decent graphics.

The PS3 was an advanced supercomputer on your shelf, so far ahead of its time that initial sales and profits suffered tremendously until that kind of power could be manufactured economically.

I used to travel to Europe for business and had a Slingbox hooked up to my satellite receiver at home. It let me watch remotely on my laptop from anywhere I had a good/fast internet connection. Believe me, when you’re in a London hotel and your choices are BBC-1 through -4, Skynews, and 10 non-English language channels, you get bored quickly!

(created some interesting challenges with “she who must be obeyed” when I’d be operating the tuner from far-away, but that’s another story!)

I thought it amusing how people anthropomorphised their Roombas, until I got one.

BTW, did you see that episode of Gilmore Girls watching their Roombas? Just search “gilmore girls roomba” on YouTube. You’ll understand.

I don’t know if it’s considered a “gadget” for purposes of this discussion, but I think the HDTV was a real eye-opener for me. HD is light-years beyond the old analog sets. They’ve also come down in price so much, they’re almost ubiquitous.

Love the DVR. I have Direct TV. At the office I’ll hear an ad for something cool to watch but I’ll realize I won’t be home in time. I just go to the DTV schedule and click to record it.

They can make virtual pancakes, however:

“I have become addicted to Tivo/DVRs. They change how you live your life.”

Indeed! I no longer watch commercials and for the life of me I can't tell you when or on which channel a particular show comes on. All I know is the shows I want appear in my now playing list and I watch them all without commercials. A 60 minute show only takes me 40 minutes to watch!

"...Tivo/DVRs. They change how you live your life."

I just wish I could get Comcast to put a bigger drive into my box. 120Gb just ain't makin' it. It will only hold like 6-8 hours of HD content. They should make a box with at least a 320 Gigger.

They are great for seniors. Both mentally and physically stimulating. The tennis games are cool too. Bowling has better sound effects.
