I think you might be referring to what was once the grandest train station in North America ...

I was viewing some other “detroit” video’s ,, lots of fabulous salvage opportunities there ... check out these two closed police department buildings ,,, LOTS of “subway tile” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9XA0DfIv6E&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGoC0PQsdcY&NR=1

The Public school supply building would be ideal to convert to a broiler chicken operation ... millions of birds..

I grew up less than 60 miles from Detroit and have never lived more than 100 miles away.

I go there as little as I have to. Haven't been there in more than 10 years, I believe.

Over the long run, Detroit will probably thrive again. Let it shrink, let the elected corrupt politicians continue to drive it into the ground, and someday they won't be around any more and some folks will buy the property real cheap and make something of it.

Besides, you still have the Tigers!

Many streets in Kansas City have still not been hit with a shovel truck, and the snow storm was over a week ago. It’s a slippery, rut filled mess, and dangerous for driving.

nteresting these are the 1965 Videos of Detroit;

Detroit - City On The Move Part One of Two

Made by the city of Detroit, this film attempted to bid for The Olympic Games in the late 1960s. This film put the best spotlight possible on the city shortly before it’s decline in the 1970s.

Appears to me that if one was going to give America an enema
the tube would be inserted in Detroit!

From your link:

Dangelo Clemons

DeDawun Simmons

Delshaun Embry

It would be un-pc to draw conclusions from this list of names (of perps), but one can't help but do so.

Another series, starts out slow, this fella arrives at the airport and tries to walk in the rain for his film, and then calls some acquaintances he meet on the internet to escort him. He falls into a basement as he tries to climb down to inspect an abandon structure on the first one;

The same is happening in Toledo. Or should I say Frogtown? The name being some idiot mayor’s idea. With large frogs on corners of the downtown Toledo area.

I remember long ago (when my relatives there were still alive) that froglegs were a HOT item on most restaurant menus. I NEVER tried them, the idea was gross to me. A Tony Packo's hot dog was my preference. It's been years and years since I've had one of those.

Rabble has taken over the neighborhood.

Went back about a decade ago for my father's funeral and saw Westgate was in miserable shape and many of the small stores empty alongside the former Lion Store. I was shocked to find one of the small dress shop owners remember me from childhood trips into her shop. She was quite elderly and sharp as could be. A drive down Sylvania Avenue looked like the decline was in full swing. Great Eastern Shopping Center was abysmal (I've heard from old schoolchums that it has a pizza restaurant, a burger joint and not much more). I moved away over 40 years ago and would never in a million years consider going back.

I think the silly frogtown carp was because Toledo used to be part of the black swamp the extended into Michigan.

I liked Rudy's hot dogs. :-)

All I really “know” of Detroit is what my grandmother used to tell me about living there in the early ‘50s working for the auto industry, as a single (abandoned) mother no less — not something that was ...uh, celebrated, in those days.

Of course, Gram pulled the D lever til the day she died, never once understanding what she was actually voting for. God rest her soul. And God help this country.

One of my favorite sites that I like to recommend when the subject of Detroit comes up - Forgotten Detroit: http://www.forgottendetroit.com/

It’s just sad to think of all the magnificent buildings just going to waste, and the fall of the economy that used to support them.

I went to UM Ann Arbor in the early ‘70s and married a guy from Dexter. As a student, I went with my friends to Cobo for rock concerts. Even then, most of the whites I knew from Detroit had either just moved out or where planning their get away. By time my son went to UM in the mid ‘90s, the only place his uncle would take him in Detroit was Greek Town (the paternal side of the family is Greek) and the baseball stadium. What a loss.

We moved in 75. When we finally went back for a visit after 15 years, I couldn’t find Willys Parkway. We drove in circles. My brother told me later, “Well you idiot! They took it out!” Also Upton Ave is now Jackman? We got lost.

I read online that Franklin Park Mall and Southwyck are abandoned. One of them is going to be torn down. I think the beginning of the end was when downtown Tiedtke’s burned.
