I have learned what all we old military veterans have wanted for many, many, many years, may actually be going to happen. If you are familiar with the TV mini-series, Once An Eagle, staring Sam Elliott as Sam Damon, with Glen Ford also, is going to be released on DVD sometime in early 2010 according to the web site listed above.

Universal has apparently, finally, agreed to do it. This web site was the main campaign site too get the DVD released.

TOPICS: Books/Literature; Education; History; Military/Veterans
KEYWORDS: glenford; onceaneagle; samdamon; samelliott
FYI for all out there who have always wanted a copy of the DVD or too simply see the movie. Outstanding movie. The book is a West Point read for young officers also.

Your welcome. I read the book many, many, many years ago. Have reread it several times. I always wanted to see the series again, but it has never been on TV that I have seen. I could never understand why they would not reshow it or put it on DVD. This guy on the web site started a campaign to get it out. I guess he finally won. It will be nice. It should sell well as I know a lot of military folks that want it, and others want too see it. I bet it will make them big bucks. Just don’t understand why it took them 30 years too put it back out. This is the first movie I saw with Sam Elliott and really liked him ever since.

Thank you for your reply. I did not read the book, just saw the TV series. I too became a big Sam Elliot fan after seeing the series. Also found I did not like the actor who played the role of Courteney Massengale (Cliff Potts). I always associacted Massengale with “douche” although the real product name is spelled a bit differently.

I had not realized the military academies require the book to be read but I certainly see why for it is an incredible treatise on leadership and how a truly good leader cares for his men.

I think now I’ll read the book and get the DVD. Thanks for posting this.
