Relic reveals Noah's ark was circular

Gen 6:15 This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits.

Not according to God's instructions. Maev should check all the facts...

Not surprising really.

The most common kind of water craft in ancient Mesopotamia were round, much like the Irish coracle.

They work well enough for a fishing platform and are basically just a basket and easy to make.

If this was the most common type of boat to Mesopotamians, it would make sense they would make the story fit their perceptions.

One might think that such an amazing historical tale, persisting across such a wide variety of cultures, would reinforce the fact that there was in fact a literal basis for the story.

But, no, the focus is on regional variations and embellishments, particularly those that run counter to the Biblical account, and that is supposed to relegate it all to myth.

Thanks Free ThinkerNY, although this may turn into a Flame Festival™ or Bloodbath™.
According to newly translated instructions inscribed in ancient Babylonian on a clay tablet telling the story of the ark, the vessel that saved one virtuous man, his family and the animals from god's watery wrath was not the pointy-prowed craft of popular imagination but rather a giant circular reed raft. The now battered tablet, aged about 3,700 years, was found somewhere in the Middle East by Leonard Simmons, a largely self-educated Londoner who indulged his passion for history while serving in the RAF from 1945 to 1948.

Does it really matter what shape it was? Obviously, it must have worked, and there is no requirement that it be built again (unless it’s one of those awful designs for a church). Yes, some congregation actually built a church shaped like the ark. Ugly? Yes. Does it really matter? No.

As to forgetting what shape it actually was, its just one less thing to worry about.

There are numerous Science Fiction stories about the ark being a spaceship. APerhaps a flying saucer is about right ;-)

I’m surprised no one has commented on the last paragraph of this story, which is crazier than the rest of it:

“In the Victorian era some became obsessed with the ark story. George Smith – the lowly British museum assistant who, in 1872, deciphered the Flood Tablet which is inscribed with the Assyrian version of the Noah’s ark tale – could apparently not contain his excitement at his discovery.”

Does this not sound kind of odd?

According to the museum’s archives: “He jumped up and rushed about the room in a great state of excitement and to the astonishment of those present began to undress himself.”

“the vessel that saved one virtuous man, his family and the animals from god’s watery wrath”

There were other people besides Adamites on the ark. God instructed Noah to take two of ALL flesh.(Gen. 6:19)
And don’t jump on me with Peter...7 souls goes with the subject of Israelites vs. every one else.

And God’s instructions made the ark rectangular.
