Never Satisfied But Always Content
I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. —Philippians 3:14

Tiger Woods is clearly the greatest golfer of his generation. His ability to perform under pressure and win is becoming legendary. Yet what motivates Woods is not just winning, it’s his passion for excellence. Despite his great success, Tiger has repeatedly refined his swing in an ongoing effort to improve his game and be a better golfer. His desire for excellence leaves him never satisfied.

The apostle Paul was also driven by a desire for excellence—but in his relationship with Christ. Paul, however, taught that we’re to have balance. While we’re never to be satisfied with our spiritual progress, we’re always to be content in Christ.

In his letter to the Philippians, Paul expressed both realities. While writing from prison, he declared his contentment with life’s circumstances, entrusting them to God’s care (Phil. 4:11). Nevertheless, he refused to be satisfied with his own spiritual progress. He did not count himself to have “apprehended” (to have arrived and achieved it all). Instead, he was committed to pressing on toward the goal (3:13-14).

Learning to balance contentment with a desire for excellence may be the forgotten key to our ongoing spiritual growth and advancement.

I give my life to You, O Lord,
To follow and obey;
Grant me contentment as I strive
For excellence each day. —Sper

Godliness with contentment is great gain. —1 Timothy 6:6

Thank you for the nice lesson today, Mayor. Reading about Tiger always striving for more excellence, I do believe he can turn his life around and I pray that he does. I believe the piece by Sper at the bottom could be excellent for Tiger Woods, as well as the rest of us.

I give my life to You, O Lord,
To follow and obey;
Grant me contentment as I strive
For excellence each day. —Sper

Just think, this was only 2 weeks ago
and we had snow for about 2 weeks.
This is looking from my patio and
you couldn't tell where the driveway, yard
or the street stopped and started.
And for the last 3 days we have
been in the 50's and wearing only jackets!
Gotta admit though, it was pretty!

Morning, Dixie. I know you do - cats are very popular at Amy's Place. They're such entertaining and fun and independent little things!

My bet is they’re Republican cups!!

I am excited to death over this election. Sure hope we don’t have a let down and for some reason, I don’t think we will.

The horses will be fun. I finally got a post finished...F.R. was down and I noticed when I did get on you had posted your lovely horse graphic! Beautiful! I’ll be in and out to see the horses and post one or two!

Wowsers!

We didn’t even get a flake but stayed in the 20’2-30’s for 2 weeks. 62 and sunny as we speak! Woohoo!

Thats so cute and reminds me of a poem Jack Deth posted about cats on horses backs. I sorta thought it was Conor as he did post some poems about cats but for the moment I’m thinking Jack. Help, guys!

We would get a little break long enough to get to the store or drug store and bang, it was falling again. I don’t drive in it much at all. If my street looks fairly clear, I will go out for a little while. We may be through with snow but you never can tell. February is a cold month for us.

I love it! It is beautiful, jaycee! I do want to tell you again how much I enjoy seeing how far you've come with your table posts!

I noticed that FR was down the first time I tried to post the opening today, and for me, it is running terribly slow. I will reboot and see if it helps. Sometimes it does, and sometimes I do think that FR itself gets sluggish - maybe today because of the election bringing more people? Don't know, but I'll be back. :)

Yeah, we’ll get more cold. That was the most/longest coldest spell we’ve had in 20-30 years, if not longer.

Ah, I didn't know FR crashed yesterday, and just now saw Jim's Yahoo mail about FR being down this morning:

"Bad news. One of our main servers has crashed again. John is now trying to bring it back up. He just got home around 4:00 am this morning from fixing yesterday's crash and looks like he's going to have to turn around and go right back. When it rains it pours. Jim"
