2 years ago, I bought a 27" Polaroid Flat Screen, tonight while watching TV, I heard a "snap" than smoke started pouring out of the top of the TV. Needless to say, it's shot.
I looked on internet, and alot of the same kinds of complaints. Pissed off.
STAY AWAY FROM POLAROID products.

The real Polaroid went bankrupt several tears ago and someone bought the name. Polaroid (the real one) never made TV’s.

polaroid does NOT make flat screens.....There are about 4-5 manufacturers worldwide, everyone else labels the product.....Samsung makes their own, and they are *bad* power supply problems.....
Try Vizio (I have 4 no problems), had problems with samsung....I hate sony stuff (poor quality for the price, but advertised as a premium brand).
Ok, let the flame wars start!

Polaroid is a shadow of its former self. Basically someone owns the rights to using the name, I believe they sold off all their intellectual properties, or something like that. I doubt they make anything, other companies make their stuff. With them, its win some, lose some.
As for someone complaining about Samsung, truth is, they make very good stuff these days overall, in fact, they make the screens for most LCD TV's these days from other manufacturers.

I heard a "snap" than smoke started pouring out of the top of the TV. Needless to say, it's shot. I think I've discovered the problem.

Wait to purchase a TV in 2012. That is when some of the newer OLED 2mm thick televisions will be sold.
Sony and Samsung have some really promising TV’s coming out around then.

The Samsung picture is better but I do fear they have repair problems. I think Sony has a more realistic picture, and plasmas have warmer colors BUT....
I have a Hitachi high def projection Cathode Ray Tube set. One of the first and last CRT sets with high def.
Saw a technical article rating LCD, plasma and CRT picture quality. In almost evert category the CRT picture is by far the best.
All the flat screen technologies, LCD, Plasma, LED - are still trying to catch up with what the CRT’s were capable of.

CRTs could pump out Xrays at a level that'd curl your hair (if they didn't have that glass screen in front of 'em).
No, I doubt plasma, etc. developers are trying to catch up with everything CRTs did.
