CLEARWATER, Fla -- An 11-year-old Florida girl is in a psychiatric ward and her mother in the hospital after the tween allegedly set the woman's bed on fire as she slept, police said today.
Police and fire officials were called to the Huntington Lane home shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday where they found Nancy Broadhead in the front yard.
Police say the woman was awakened by a smoke alarm and managed to escape.
Broadhead was taken to the hospital suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.
Her daughter, Samantha, and her boyfriend 15-year old Jack Ault are accused of pouring gasoline on Broadhead's bedroom floor and bed, and then set the room aflame.
Police say the pair escaped in the mother's 2007 Ford Focus.
They have both been charged with attempted murder and arson after the fire.
Watts said there was ongoing tension between Nancy and Samantha Broadhead, which escalated Monday when the mother confronted her daughter about stealing some of her cigarettes.
Mom has convictions for child neglect among other things. Sounds like a royally screwed up family.
an 11 yr old girl with a 15 yr old boyfriend
something wrong with that
Are they saying the 11 y/o daughter has a 15 y/o boyfriend? YIKES!
Was Obama buying the cigarettes and pay their rent?
“If you’re an eleven-year-old girl, you have a fifteen-year-old boyfriend, and you have a big enough nicotine habit to set your mama on fire when she gives you trouble about snitching her cigarettes...you might be a redneck.”
okay, it’s not like the woman was a good example for her daughter (do I need to give examples from the article?). She’s just reaping what she sowed.
Eleven year old girls DO NOT have boyfriends, especially ones several years older. But then, I have seen 12 year old girls you would swear are 19.
Squeaked in just under the wire for Mom of the Year nominations.
Sounds like mom will either have her own reality show or make Obama’s Motherhood Czar position.
Heck, might as well make her the nicotine czar also ( or would that be ‘czarina’?).
omg! i have an 11 year old daughter and two 13 year olds-
They are not allowed to even think about having a boyfriend until they are 35
I know kids have changed but GEE WHIZ!
The thing I wanted most that year was to be allowed to wear lipstick. So my Dad said “Okay but I get to pick the color”. He picked the most horrible shade of pink. I was so thrilled to be able to wear the stuff that I went through 2 tubes of it!
>”you might be a redneck. “
You might be a BITCH too!
That’s not an either-or thing. Good point.
TarCzarina maybe?
big time wrong with that. Eleven year old girls should not have a boyfriend period.
Lots of luck Mr. K!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's OK. They're cousins.(/sarc)
