a) send it to the OP

b) It varies by brand AND model.

I had to call ATT for mine a year ago. Reached Cebu, Philippines (head scratcher) and they told me with a series of Q’s (to avoid fraud), and told me the PW. Took less than 5 minutes.

She also gave me instructions to how make it simple next time and yours came close.

open your browser and type in 192.168.1.1
enter “ADMIN” as the user name and “admin” again as a password. You should now be in the setup area for the router.

Look around in the security area for a “WEP” key, maybe 12 or 16 characters long. That should be the access password for your wireless access.

Hope that helps.

G

Ask the technician who set up your router for you.

Short term - if she needs to be on the internet - have her try directly plugging in the ethernet cable going into your modem into her laptop. Your other computers will be cut off while she is doing so but that should give her a direct line to the internet. If there isn't an ethernet cable she can grab and plug in directly then it's past my expertise.

Others might be able to provide better short term help, but longer term it might be worth looking into using MAC exclusion rather than a password protected wifi connection.

I'm sure there will be experts here that will say this is not secure enough, but it has worked so far for me.

Basically it lets you allow only certain computers to connect. Looks like an unsecured network, but unless the MAC ID is entered - no connecto.

I'm sure someone will let me know this is not secure enough.

Best of luck.

You aren’t giving us much info.

You can reset routers. On Linksys you press a little hole in back with a pen. Of course models are different.

You can use either your installation CD or web download to reset.

Type in your browser the IP address.

Linksys default password is “admin” unless you changed it under the admin. tab. But that is what resetting if for.

Just look in the little book, by your computer, with all of your passwords.

What, you don’t have a little book? You didn’t keep your password for the router?

You will probably have to get help through your ISP, and reset the password on your router/home portal, if you want your daughter to be able to receive the signal.

You can get the model number of your portal by looking at the label. But you will still need your password. Everyone has a password, because if not, the neighbors could pickup the signal with their wireless equipment — get Internet Service for free.

Hope this helps — Oh, remember to get yourself a little book to keep next to your computer — for your passwords.

I’ve got my wireless router set up so it doesn’t broadcast the SSID.

My neighbors can see we’ve got a wireless connection, but, without knowing the name, they can’t get to the password prompt.

“Is it her computer password? If she didn’t tell you then you can’t use the computer.

There is no workaround short of guessing (for our purposes).”

Actually i don’t know if Windoze still does it but all passwords stored on your computer used to be in a file with .pwd extension.

This is not a funny reply:

You are correct - it wasn't funny, didn't even start coming across as.

Are you retarded?

Are you a jackass?

You don't know what your password is?

Big difference between a password to a computer you use every day and the password to a wireless network that you haven't had to mess with for XX months.

How do you even log on to your computer?

For somoeone calling people retards you don't seem to really grasped the issue at hand. Don't try to think to hard - don't want you to hurt yourself...

PS: Learn how to speak English.

Hey genius - he wasn't speaking he was typing. Other than that, if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem. Instead of posting a jackass post why don't you stop be part of the problem and just stfu?

Apologies to all others but a little tired of holier than though jackasses that take a simple question that they don't even have to be part of and use it to be, well, a jackass.
