Most Of The Yemenians Have Drug Addiction Problem
12/27/09 | nodems2000

If you research the lifestyle of a great percentage of the Yemenize people, you will see promptly a normal activity is go chew "qat" (cat) every afternoon enmasse. This has an aphetamine type effect on the chewer and it is known to have a variety of disabling diseases, such as heart disease. Some drink alcohol with it. It's perfectly legal in their country. That may be why the first "terrorist" was so unemotional during the flight. As long as these people have easy access to all kinds of drugs and use them repeatedly, how can we expect to bring any of these young men on our side. I'm sure there is a lot of psychosis in east Africa. The women even chew it when they are nursing and have lactation problems. Since they've been doing this for centuries, what kind of minds do you think they have produced in this country. To tame Yemen, in my opinion, is a losing proposition

Assassin(Hashshashin) means hashish eater
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashshashin

It makes sense that they would use drugs to enhance their operative capabilities, this is a long Arab tradition.

Qat is very common in Yemen, even in very poor areas.

It is the religion of sub-humans, ISLAM, which makes these people dangerous, not drugs.

Agreed; a significant number of Americans have drug problems, whether it’s alcohol, illegal drugs or prescription drugs, rich and poor. Yet we don’t go around killing other innocent people primarily for religious reasons, do we?

Is that the stuff that stains their teeth orange? I remember seeing natives with baseball sized wads in their mouths spitting red juice, when they smiled, their teeth were mottled orange and red.

One of our marines was busted in rank for chewing the stuff.

As I type, the word beetlenut comes to me, it cat the same thing, I guess, I’ll have to do some searching.

bettlenut is not the same as khat.

However, one of the reported side effects of khat is that it makes the user “sociable”.

We need to kill the apocalypse loving leaders of the death cult that is Islam and all their underlings in their support structure (Imams etc.) ; not for religious reasons but for our security.

Khat (pronounced “cot”) is a stimulant drug derived from a shrub (Catha edulis) that is native to East Africa and southern Arabia. Although the khat plant itself is not scheduled under the Controlled Substances Act, one of its chemical constituents, cathinone, is a Schedule I drug. The Federal Government treats khat as equivalent to cathinone and therefore considers its use illegal.1

Health/Behavioral Effects2
The main psychoactive ingredients in khat are cathine and cathinone, chemicals that are structurally similar to, but less potent than, amphetamine, yet result in similar psychomotor stimulant effects. Chewing khat leaves induces a state of euphoria and elation as well as feelings of increased alertness and arousal. The user also experiences an increase in blood pressure and heart rate. The effects begin to subside after about 90 minutes to 3 hours, but can last 24 hours. At the end of a khat session, the user may experience a depressive mood, irritability, loss of appetite, and difficulty sleeping.1

There are a number of adverse physical effects that have been associated with heavy or long-term use of khat, including tooth decay and periodontal disease; gastrointestinal disorders such as constipation, ulcers, inflammation of the stomach, and increased risk of upper gastrointestinal tumors; and cardiovascular disorders such as irregular heartbeat, decreased blood flow, and myocardial infarction. There is also consistent epidemiologic evidence for a weak association between chronic khat use and mental disorders. Although there is no evidence that khat use causes mental illness, chewing khat leaves may worsen symptoms in patients who have preexisting psychiatric conditions.

It is unclear whether khat causes tolerance, physical dependency, addiction, or withdrawal, but nightmares and slight trembling have been reported several days after ceasing to chew.

Extent of Use
It is estimated that 10 million people worldwide chew khat.2 It is commonly found in the southwestern part of the Arabian Peninsula and in East Africa, where it has been used for centuries as part of an established cultural tradition. In one large study in Yemen, 82 percent of men and 43 percent of women reported at least one lifetime* episode of khat use.2 Its current use among particular migrant communities in the United States and in Europe has caused alarm among policymakers and health care professionals. No reliable estimates of prevalence in the United States exist.

What are some consequences of Khat use?

Common side effects include anorexia, tahycardia, hypertension, insomnia, and gastric disorders.
Chronic Khat abuse can result in symptoms such as physical exhaustion, violence, and suicidal depression.
Widespread frequent use of Khat impacts productivity because it tends to reduce worker motivation.
Khat can induce manic behaviors, hyperactivity, and hallucinations.

There are reports of Khat-induced psychosis.

I understand. My BIL drank himself to death by age 49.

It was not pretty the last two years. He died looking like he was at least 80 years old.
