Getting ready for tomorrow's Christmas meal got me thinking about Christmases-past

My son is doing really well in Boston and HIS new Christmas tradition is to bring the 'beef' for dinner: 3+ pounds of Prime Filet Mignon @ $36 a pound.

He wants a Bernaise Sauce;he gets a Bernaise sauce.

I was thinking about where I spent Christmases in the early 50's to 1960 when I met and married my lovely wife.

Such haute cuisine dineries as Commanders in New Orleans eating the cheapest shrimp on the menu; the charming NAHA Hotel in Okinawa, home of the world's finest seaweed sushi; The Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, home of 50 cents martinis and last but not least; Tony's Club 89 (Northern Blvd and 89th) in Jackson Heights, Queens where the pasta was free all Christmas week!

We are lucky today!

Beef, it's what's for Christmas. I like his style.

I’ve eaten beef for Christmas dinner for years. Tomorrow, Prime rib, with roast vegetables and Brussels sprouts, Yorkshire pudding, Spotted Dick with custard sauce.

It's a traditional British steamed pudding with currants and raisins. Yummy.

You just can’t teach a dog about safe sex!

Standing rib roast, liberally sprinkled with pepper, garlic, onion powder, and a little kosher salt

“Liberally” is a culinary term in this case.

I went to Commander’s Palace for dinner. The desserts are works of art, but I like Antoines better.

I live near Pittsburgh, and you can buy canned Spotted Dick from Heinz at the Giant Eagle grocery store. In fact, they also carry a lot of other British Heinz products there.

Well, “a chicken in every pot”, they say, got Hoover elected in 1928.

Actually the phrase went back to Henry the IV in 17th century France.....BUT....whatever works
