Word to the wise: do NOT stick your hand down the shute of a snowblower to clear an ice jam if the auger is still spinning. I let go of the hand control and thought the auger has stopped. Three broken fingers and two to-the-bone lacerations on my middle finger on my right hand have taught me this lesson today. The ER nurses and docs were very impressed. No work, no driving, great pain meds, lots of antibiotics, and seeing a hand surgeon tomorrow. Dumb, dumb, dumb...

Sounds like a frozen linkage on the auger handle. Or a broken shear pin, but that would not have cut into fingers, merely pinched.

I have a 27 HP snow blower on the front of my ATV. Has a dead man’s switch in the seat. I stand up, it shuts off.

Never EVER stick you hand down the chute to clear an ice jam. Use the plastic tool to do that. Even a stopped auger can move once the ice jam is cleared and can take off fingers or a hand.

My brother in law lost fingers doing that. Didn’t your daddy show you what a stick is for? Another little tip
for the future. When the snow is wet spray the chute with
WD 40, Silicone or vetable oil.

Do not touch it again until it is very, very cold...well below zero...then, to make sure it is not running, test to see if there is any vibration by placing your toungue on the steel cowl...

Personally, I’m mechanically and electronically disinclined. That’s part of the reason why I usually get someone else to mow the lawn, shovel snow, etc. etc.

Joked about that with my wife. Hard to believe some folks would actually consider doing that. It was my own dumb fault.
