I really enjoyed the responses from last week's "What Are Your Favorite Movies Made Before 1950?" thread (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2406295/posts).
So here's another movie topic - favorite foreign language films of any era. (Hey, we need a pleasant distraction from the debacle going on in DC!)
If you know the date or even decade of the film and the language, please include it.
Thank you and enjoy!
Oops. Left out “Babette’s Feast.” Swedish, I think.
We just saw that one. Very good.
Babette’s Feast
those perverts!
I like Japanese monster movies. lol.
I saw a Korean cop show once. That was kind of strange but interesting. I also saw one of those movies from India on AMC, have no idea what that was about really.

I watched this one after reading Medved’s take on it and found it very entertaining:
Ha-Ushpizin - Israeli - (2004)
I think Korean cinema is some the strangest movie-making out there, taking avant-garde to a whole other level. Very weird stuff.
Mark for later contribution.
1. Kagushima? War movie where the soldiers had flags on their backs and they picked some twin commoner to stand in for general.
Almost....Kagemusha

A relative new film,” The Admiral”. A Russian film!
I just saw this file and was amazed!
Very well done and decently acted.
The subject ‘Admiral Alexander Kolchak”, one of the leaders of the White Counterrevolutionary Movement.
I was blown away by the act that here was a Russian film portraying this great enemy of the revolution as a Russian hero ! It was a very moving film, with Kolchak shown as a highly principled (Very very Russian Orthodox!), patriotic, flawed but tragic figure.
Dark Blue World - Czech
WOW! GMTA!!
Lola Rennt.
Agreed! Think and run!
Yes! Hero! Awesome movie thanks!
OK so I’ve figured out 2 of the 3.
Anyone help with Kageshina/kagushima or whatever its called? Something about an imposter sitting in for a Samuri general I think.
The Shop on Main Street (Czech, 1965)
Closely Watched Trains (Czech, 1966)
Pardon mon Affaire (French, 1976)
The Seventh Seal; Amarcord; La Belle et La Bete; Ikiru; Samurai no Shichinin; Rashomon; Kind Hearts and Coronets; The Lavender Hill Mob; The Man in the White Suit; The Ladykillers; The Last Holiday... many others.
Of course, taking British English as a foreign language....
