Need more info to help you out. Analog or digital monitor? do you have a extra monitor you can plug into your PC? If so, swap the monitors to check to see if it’s the video card and not the monitor that is the problem.

check the physical wiring and connections. Also check to see if you have moved your speakers or any other interference causing device closer to the monitor.

someone may have adjusted your clock & phase setting on your analogue monitor

that’s the main difference between a digital & analogue monitor.

site that explains it

use this to set your analogue LCD’s phase.

First off, Five years is old for an LCD its due to turn dimmer and more yellow, or blurry too.

You can adjust the refresh rate in the control panel-display icon, try 60 if its on 75 or 75 if its on 60.

Also in the on screen display on your monitor and try to find auto contrast, or factory reset. Some brands like HP just bave a button that says “auto” that works miracles.

You might check to see if your graphic driver is up to date.

Check your resolution.

Question: Has it been always blurry? If so, it may be the LCDs are slow in response to the video input. In this case, get a new high resolution fast LCD monitor.

Look up the product number on the back of the monitor on the Dell site. Find out what the screen resolution is (1280x1024, etc...). Press WINDOWS-M to shrink any open window, right click on the desktop, select properties, and change the screen resolution to match.

You can change the size of the font on your browser window to compensate for the smaller text, as odds are that you’re using a resolution that is less than the actual screen, and the screen’s bits are covering more than one dot on the screen, leading to the blurry viewing.

Enjoy.

Some monitors have a menu setting for resetting back to factory defaults. I’ve used that in the past for blurry screen.

I would check any increase in your Holiday Cheer Alcohol intake first.

Aside from all the "are you logged in?" and "too much eggnog?" jokes, it sounds like somehow your ClearType got turned off.

Try this: Open Windows Help, type "ClearType" and click on ClearType Frequently Asked Questions. Then from that page, click on "Go to the Microsoft typography website, and then follow the instructions for tuning ClearType."

Then follow the directions on the Microsoft webpage, and fine tune your ClearType settings.

Hope this helps. If not, then beg, borrow, or steal another monitor, and try to isolate the problem between your graphics card or the monitor. Once you do, then replace the bad component. ($$$)
