A WOMAN has called on police to investigate after a needle was found in her 11-year-old daughter's brain and she believes it may have been inserted by someone 10 years ago.
The girl had the needle successfully removed in an operation at Chengdu Military General Hospital in Sichuan Province, Chengdu Evening News reported yesterday.
The needle had impaired the girl's physical and mental development. She has the intelligence of a child of three years old, according to doctors cited in the report.
The mother Yang Xiaohui told the newspaper her daughter often cried and ran a fever, which she had blamed on poor health. She couldn't walk or speak until she was six, Yang added.
The needle was first discovered during a CT check in the summer at a hospital in Zhejiang Province, where Yang and her husband were working.
Yang took the girl back to her hometown in Sichuan for medical help.
Kuang Yongqin, the neurosurgeon who removed the needle from the girl's brain on Wednesday, said the needle was 5 centimeters long and had grown into the brain tissue, apparently because it had been there for a long time.
He believed the needle had been inserted in the girl's brain before the skull had fully closed atop the head.
Yang called police to investigate because she suspects someone close to the family may have been behind the act. She said she always felt her daughter was not welcome in the family, according to the report.

To think that backward country owns us.
in China a girl is sacrificed through infanticide so one can get a new permit to have another baby...thin needles to the brain are almost impossible to detect especially in poor agrarian areas...
these commies are despicable....
I think you have a very good point there. Population control leads to some pretty horrendous things. In America, we suck out an infants entire brain. It's over with in about an hour.
Eh, give credit where it’s due.
The mother was able to get a diagnosis for her daughter - and lemme tell you, in med school they don’t teach “needle implanted in the brain before skull fusion” as a potential diagnosis for developmental deficiency. And it sounds like a neurosurgeon was able to successfully remove it despite its fusion to living tissue.
There are plenty of examples of how China is universally back-asswards, but this article isn’t one of them.
One chillingly malevolent person performed a disturbing act of cruelty on this girl and her mother. Were we to be judged by the worst our society has to offer, would we look any better?
Yes, this kind of thing is common in China, especially when the family wants a boy instead of a girl.
They push Mom off to work just as soon as they can after delivering the baby, and the baby is left with Grandma or other relatives. Grandparents want boys too!
The China Daily article actually gave more evidence of family members being involved in this treachery.
Oh, you know, now that you mention it, I DO recall learning about this back in school!
A common form of surreptitious infanticide was to use a needle to damage the cerebellum, which is responsible for autonomic nervous system functions. At some point over the following few days, the child “forgets” to breathe in her sleep, and dies of what appears to be SIDS.
Except... (1) We learned about this as an ancient, bygone practice, more a matter of mythology than actual clinical case study; (2) The cerebellum is nowhere near the parts of the brain responsible for learning and language acquisition, so whoever did this to this girl seriously missed; (3) I don’t think you’re supposed to *leave the needle in*!
(I haven’t seen the aforementioned House episode. I’m waaaaay behind on my House. God I love that show...)

The millions of young men who cannot find wives are starting to think that the one child policy is not such a good idea.
I do believe in a fundamental separation of church & state, but contrary to the prevailing opinions of American & European atheists, when you completely remove religious conviction and faith from a society, this is what you get. This is secularism in its most purely distilled form - meeting the needs of the state irrespective of basic moral initiatives.
Only in a society completely where's there an absolute absence of God in the public square, could this be possible; Pushing a needle into the brain of a newborn baby? It's unspeakably evil. Interestingly enough, just yesterday there was a story reported about one of China's largest and newest Christian churches being shuttered and vandalized by the State police. Coincidence? Probably not.
Gay guys are cool with it.
I can't remember where, but I was reading about this several years ago. The story went into some detail about the looming societal unrest that is in large part due to the millions or perhaps even tens of millions of men who are underemployed and who don't have a family to care for precisely for the reason you cite.
Unemployed or under-employed young men with no family to lookout for, usually leads to societal corrosion, perhaps even revolution. Look at the lawless band of young men that have wrecked so much havoc on so many African countries the last 40 years.
but still nothing becomes or it.....and then they become bum farmers....

This is like when they decided to exterminate all the birds in part of Peking — I forget the reason why — but the result was a massive invasion/proliferation of insects — the birds who used to eat them were no longer there.
So stupid when arrogant men try to manage nature.
“one of China’s largest and newest Christian churches being shuttered and vandalized by the State police.”
Perhaps it got reported internationally because it was a large one. It didn’t get large without having been monitored for a long period of time. But believe me, it is a daily thing in China for congregations to be under surveillance, to be raided, pastors harrassed and made to look like criminals; often jailed.
