Near the end of the 2PM ET hour on MSNBC, anchor Contessa Brewer discussed the ClimateGate scandal only to claim there was no scandal in the emails that seemed to show climate scientists manipulating global warming data: I mean is someone using differences in semantics to try and play up a controversy thats not really there?
Brewer spoke with Politico reporter Erica Lovely about the emails in which scientists referred to a trick to conceal evidence that contradicted predicted warming trends. Brewer explained: ...theres a Penn State scientist Michael Mann....He says the word trick doesnt actually refer to any kind of deception, but to a very well-known accepted data technique. Lovely saw nothing improper in concealing data: They wanted to keep it out of some of the international reports that the United Nations would be looking at, you know, just to to move the global talks forward.

Gee. Would this be the MSNBC that is owned by GE?
The same GE that is heavily invested in global warming?
The same GE that is banking on trillions being spent by the government on health care “reform”?
The same GE that had tens of billions of dollars of bad debt taken off of its hands by the government?
The same GE that is run by the socialist turd Jeffrey Immelt?
The same socialist turd Jeffrey Immelt that sits on the Economic Recovery Board for the Obama administration?
That MSNBC?

Notice how the Warmists have focused on the use of the word "trick" in a single email in order to attempt to deny what was obviously intended (deception) but - more importantly - to draw attention away from the other numerous indications of collaborative fraud among the scientists involved.
Two classic Leftist techniques are at work here: (1) Misdirection: "look at this hand - don't look at the other one!" and (2) The "Straw man" argument - create a caricature of the opposition's argument and attack the (false) caricature rather than the real argument.

Gee Contessa, do you think they would have called for an investigation of the CRU data if there was no issue? Do you think the CRU scientist would have been asked to step down if there was no issue? I cannot believe how shameless, or clueless the MSM is.

MSNBC isnt altogether there. They fill a niche for some of the public.

“Lovely saw nothing improper in concealing data: They wanted to keep it out of some of the international reports that the United Nations would be looking at, you know, just to to move the global talks forward.”
That is one of the most stupid things I have ever read.

The reporter simply defaults to Mann’s explanation, wallowing in her ignorance. What Mann did was splice proxy and measured temperature data together to make it look like warming had occured, he “hid the decline” by cherry-picking data. This is fraud!
This is a good article that explains it well:

So when Nixon said “I am not a crook” did you just say “Oh well, he said he wasn’t” and leave it at that?
