Breathe easy, Boise State fans.

Texas hit a do-or-die field goal on the final play of the game Saturday night to beat Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game.

The kick likely put Texas in the national championship game and Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. If Nebraska had won, the Broncos might have gotten snubbed by the Bowl Championship Series.

I too am afraid it’s a pipe dream. It would be nice if December in football would become more like March in basketball.

I was, like every sane fan without a dog in the hunt, rooting for BCS turmoil—nothing against the Longhorns, but geez, WTF are TCU and Cincy doing anywhere near the BCS championship? I wanted one of them to be embarrassed by Alabama so badly!

What was the name of the team that Alabama embarassed in a bowl game last year?

“Nebraska offensive is pathetic. Their QB is a 3rd teamer on most top 25 teams. Once they settle the offense they will be a top 10 team.”

I think their QB didn’t look as sorry as those receivers. They couldn’t catch a pass with a net and stickum.

“Regardless of what the BCS honks will say and how they will spin it, there are 5 undefeated teams and no three of those teams is less deserving of a shot at the outright championship. It’s a complete and utter travesty. And I say that as a UT fan.”

Sad thing is, I don’t know how with 13 games already it’ll ever happen that we get to a playoff, even a 4-team one. It’s a shame, really.

Listening to 60 minutes of Musburger was agonizing.

Worst announcer on TV. He ought to win an Emmy for being the worst announcer on TV for 20 years. A lifetime unachievement award.

This sucks. Huskers should have won the game!

Woulda...coulda...shoulda. Nebraska didn't even try to get a first down to allow them to run down the clock, and then kicked the ball out of bounds after they went ahead.

The guys on ESPN are saying the PAC-10 was the strongest conference from top to bottom this year; especially if you toss out Washington and Washington State, but both those teams will be much better next year.

Certainly the SEC is the best conference this year at the top of the confernece. No one could seriously argue against that. Next year, the PAC-10 is going to be the best conference in the country. Lots of young teams in the PAC-10 this years and almost all starting QBs are returning.

From top to bottom, the coaching in the PAC-10 is arguably the best in the country; especially on offense.

I see the Gators suffering the same fate, no way they are going to be mentally interested in playing that game.

I guess it could have been worse—it could have been Bob Costas with Musburger.

Check out Cincy’s and TCU’s schedule. Except for one or two each all they play are homecoming opponents.

It’s rollin’ baby, it’s rollin’....good luck against Texas...and give the SEC another title.

We’ll see you in Atlanta next year.

I’d like to see a metric that figures out conference strength based somewhat upon bowls but also including NFL draftee ranks, SOS numbers, and intraconference rankings at time of play and season start. The issue with the SEC is always to me that some peak so late they end up being overranked based upon timing (Tennessee sems to do this every year) and some get banged up and broken (as Florida probably will this year).

Tebow is a great college football player, but I think he is going to have to find a different position in the NFL.

Lane Kiffin was right on the money on the pre-game show when he said Saban was the better coach and that Alabama would win. Would not be surprised if we were to learn that Kiffin provided Alabama with some pretty good insight on how to beat Florida after Tennessee played Florida tough.

What about that crazy penalty assessment of 15 yards from the 19 to put Texas on the 4 yard line, from where they barely scored a TD? That’s not right, is it?

The NCAA penalty for defensive pass interference in the end zone is 15 yards from the line of scrimmage and an automatic first down.

The penalty limitation of half the distance to the goal line does NOT apply. However, if the 15 yards would place the ball inside the 2 yard line, the ball is placed at the 2 yard line.
