Portland has 19th worst traffic (Seattle is worst, LA #2 according to TomTom report)

Portland has the 19th worst traffic congestion in the country, with 23 percent of the city’s roads having “heavy delays,” according to a report released Wednesday.

Seattle’s road woes are the worst, followed by Los Angeles at No. 2, with 38 percent of its roads having heavy delays, followed by Chicago (37 percent), San Francisco (35 percent) and New York City (31 percent), according to global positioning system (GPS) company TomTom of Concord, Mass.

The company ranked cities as most to least congested according to how fast cars could travel on the street network. Traffic was defined as congested if drivers could travel at only 70 percent or less of the posted speed limit, and an average hour-long commute included 20 minutes or more of significant delays, according to TomTom.

Of the 30 major cities included in the study, Minneapolis had the least-congested streets, with only 17 percent.

I agree, in and out is the worst, and 205 is downright dangerous IMO. Even if I’m going to the airport, at certain times of day I’ll take Columbia. In the city proper the West side viaducts are not so bad.

Worse! (more Liberals than you can imagine in your worst nightmares), and more welfare frauds too. (The Libs love welfare queens with sob stories. Lots of Illegals too. After Orange County, prepare for a real culture shock. OC is Heaven compared to Oregon.

Yes!

Seattle sucks at yet something else. We lost Boeing, we are raising taxes, and our traffic is the worst in the country.

We are now also the most liberal - only place in the country stupid enough to pass same-sex benefits law.

We have the lowest rate of church membership.

We have Patty Murray, by far the stupidest member of a very stupid body of people.

We have a higher rate of treasonous a$$hats than anywhere else - Baird, Inslee, Larsen, McDermott, Murray, and Cantwell. Cantwell further distinguishers herself by being one of Toricelli’s bedroom conquests.

It’s gorgeous up here, but that’s where it stops. The very last place in the US that you’d want to put a business is right here in Seattle.

Collectively, we boast the biggest collection of arrogant, nouveau riche, pseudo-educated, faux-green gasbags in the US. It’s war on plastic bottles, but they chat away on cellphones like it’s going out of style. Plastic bottles are pollution, but obsolete cellphones make wonderful Christmas ornaments.

Come here, spend your money, and then leave is my advice. I should have moved my wife out of here 17 years ago when I had the chance.

On the bright side you can buy all the scary looking black gunzz you want, and carry them around with you, and the city can’t stop you.

Hmmm... sounds vaguely reminiscent of Northern California.

They came from SF and Berkely to show Portland the way. They actually tried to make the trip 20 years earlier but their VWs all broke down in Eugene.

I live in the NW hills and can get most anywhere I need to go in 15 minutes. I love it here - but then I don’t have to work in Gresham, or Wilsonville or other too far places.

Are you talking about the NW hills or the West Hills?

Tualatin Mountains

The Tualatin Mountains (also known as the West Hills or Southwest Hills of Portland) are a range of hills on the western border of Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. A spur of the Northern Oregon Coast Range, they separate the Tualatin Basin of Washington County, Oregon from the Portland Basin of western Multnomah County and Clark County, Washington.

The range includes Mount Sylvania, Elk Point, Dixie Mount, Rocky Point, Bald Hill, Long Mountain.

It’s always amazed me that a place so imbued with God’s gifts could be as godless as Seattle is. I remember living there for several months on business and had a miserable time finding a church. They were so spread out and so not what I was used to. Sad state of affairs.

I’m moving to Portland from Orange County, CA next month. I have never even visited, but I hear it’s nice. I’m going to be up there next week looking for short term housing. Is Portland as liberal as I keep hearing it is?

No, it's not... LOL...

There are plenty of conservatives around, too. It's like any other big city and you're gonna get liberals in them, too.

But really, it's a nice town. You'll be surprised to find out that the downtown section of Portland is a good "walking town". It's great to walk around and there are always lots of people around doing their thing. The downtown section is pretty alive and active, compared to a lot of other cities and their downtown inner cores.

If you like riding a bike for fun, it's a good biking town, too. People will be more used to traffic from bikes there, than people in other cities are..., I can tell that. :-)

There is plenty of "business" for shoppers in the inner core downtown Portland, so people actually can shop there and do things in the evenings. It should be more busy now that we're into the Christmas shopping season. It will be active and definitely busy in downtown Portland in the evenings.

I would say, that in general, people in Portland have a "live and let live" attitude there and are more laid back (at least from what I see in my travels around).

Portland is not going to be as "religious" as Tulsa, Oklahoma (for a comparison) or Dallas, Texas -- but there are plenty of Christians there (if that would be one thing you would be concerned about [or not... :-) ...]).

I-205 always seemed like a drive in the park to me... LOL... compared to I-5 and going across the Interstate Bridge. I always liked driving on I-205. And I've never thought it was dangerous. You need to drive in Dallas to see dangerous... :-)

Perhaps I'm just used to those 12-lane sections of freeway in Dallas where everyone is jockeying for position and exits...

Well, neither Portland nor Seattle is church country, that's for sure. But the people who do go to church are perhaps more dedicated in the Northwest than they are in the Bible Belt.

I've spent extensive time in both places (Bible Belt, Texas and Oklahoma, and the Pacific Northwest) -- and I can tell you that although "church" and "Christianity" are more a part of the culture around in the Bible Belt, there are a whole lot of Christians who are, more or less, cultural Christians.

You can certainly find a whole lot of churches in Texas and Oklahoma, but I'm not sure all the people in the churches are as committed as one might think they are... :-)

And in the Pacific Northwest, the ones who are in the Evangelical churches are probably more committed or they wouldn't be there at all, as it's not so much of a cultural distinctive in the Pacific Northwest.

There are plenty of Christians in the Pacific Northwest though, as I've spent all of my time around there with other Christians.

Traffic in Portland is part of a deliberate policy to force people onto their light rail network.

In Portland, from what I've found out, there is a time to walk, a time to ride a bike and a time to drive a car. You do all three there. I sure did, and I always enjoyed it no matter which one I was doing.

It's especially nice being able to walk around the downtown area of Portland, as that's an extremely friendly "walking town" from what I've seen of other big metropolitan areas. Most other cities are dark and dirty at night and it's not very friendly. I can't say that about Portland at night.

And especially now, you'll find a lot of foot traffic in the downtown section during these holidays, as businesses are staying open longer now. And it's always lit up really nice with all the Christmas lights around this time of year.

These people have obviously never driven in Minneapolis.

And they certainly haven't driven in Dallas, either... LOL...

Yes. It is like a mecca for liberals. My cousin used to be normal but over the years he became just more left and left and he's gone to the deep end. And of course he relocated to Portland around 7 years ago.
