Traffic in Portland is part of a deliberate policy to force people onto their light rail network.

In Portland, from what I've found out, there is a time to walk, a time to ride a bike and a time to drive a car. You do all three there. I sure did, and I always enjoyed it no matter which one I was doing.

It's especially nice being able to walk around the downtown area of Portland, as that's an extremely friendly "walking town" from what I've seen of other big metropolitan areas. Most other cities are dark and dirty at night and it's not very friendly. I can't say that about Portland at night.

And especially now, you'll find a lot of foot traffic in the downtown section during these holidays, as businesses are staying open longer now. And it's always lit up really nice with all the Christmas lights around this time of year.

Yeah lots of foot traffic. Wouldn’t be so bad if every other person wasn’t some kind of a panhandler. If they could just stay under the Burnside bridge...
