Traffic in Portland is part of a deliberate policy to force people onto their light rail network.
“Seattle has the worst traffic congestion in the nation” ping
These people have obviously never driven in Minneapolis. Any time of the day or night, traffic on the major freeways crawls. You’re better off taking side streets. Or walking.
I live in the NW hills and can get most anywhere I need to go in 15 minutes. I love it here - but then I don’t have to work in Gresham, or Wilsonville or other too far places.
Good thing I left.
Between the Mexican border and the Canadian border the narrowest area of I5 is right smack in the middle of Seattle, where it closes down from about 5 or 6 lanes northbound to only 2 lanes, before it picks up lanes again 1 at a time after the I90 interchange. And with the Convention Center built over the freeway at this choke point, there is no way to widen the freeway.
Seattle is Number 1!!!
Thanks to Stoat for the ping.
Say WA? Evergreen State ping

FReepmail sionnsar if you want on or off this ping list.
Ping sionnsar if you see a Washington state related thread.
Worse than LA? Impressive!
I’m moving to Portland from Orange County, CA next month. I have never even visited, but I hear it’s nice. I’m going to be up there next week looking for short term housing. Is Portland as liberal as I keep hearing it is?
Indeed. I'll have you know that it took the hard-Left Socialist micromanagers of Seattle and Washington State governments billions of tax dollars to achieve this impressive ranking position over the endless objections of Conservatives who told them that HOV lanes oftentimes increase congestion rather than decrease it, building the Convention Center over the freeway is going to doom the entire region to awful traffic for the next hundred years and their 'light rail' projects will dramatically increase surface street congestion as well while failing to take any measurable number of people out of their cars.
All of this was foretold decades ago and the Seattle Left, in a breathless race 'to be more like New York, Paris and San Francisco' of course derided all objectors as 'neanderthals' or worse.
"sigh"
“Is Portland as liberal as I keep hearing?” ....YES!

Major closure planned for northbound I-5 in Seattle starting Saturday
If your plans take you through Seattle on northbound I-5 this weekend, expect extra congestion and give yourself some extra time to reach your destination. Crews will close all lanes on northbound I-5 in south Seattle the next two Saturday nights and detour drivers off the freeway where they will travel six miles into SODO via Airport Way before reconnecting with the freeway. ...
Seattle wont be #1 for long! Gregoire (Fraudwoire) is chasing Boeing out the state and a host of other businesses so fast...the roads will clear in no time.
LOL, you’re welcome!
Is Portland as liberal as I keep hearing? ....YES!
It’s a blue collar dirty hippy town.
“Seattle wont be #1 for long! Gregoire (Fraudwoire) is chasing Boeing out the state and a host of other businesses so fast...the roads will clear in no time.”
Same with Portland area Nike (HQ in Beaverton Suburb)is the last Forbes 500 company left in PDX.
And with all that $pending on choo-choo trains, trolleys, and other forms of socialized transportation, NTM bread and circuses, and “smart growth”.
Say it ain't so!
