Governor's gig: Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and his rock 'n' roll band, Capitol Offense Washington Times ^ | December 02, 2004 | John McCaslin
Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and his rock 'n' roll band, Capitol Offense, will headline the Jan. 20 inaugural ball hosted by Free Republic, a grass-roots conservative news, analysis and activism forum, in Washington.
It's a repeat performance for the 49-year-old Mr. Huckabee, whose gubernatorial term expires in 2007. Because of the high-spirited show put on by his band at the 2001 Free Republic Inaugural Ball and Count the White House Silverware Party, guests left other inaugural balls in favor of the governor's less-formal gig, which, this year, honors the U.S. armed forces.
Facts are stubborn things.
And RINO is as RINO does.
But admittedly, appearing at a Freeper function was a shrewd move for him, PR-wise.
I don’t see many people trashing him. Reporting facts, yes, criticizing actions, yes. Deservedly so.
"If I had known then what I know now, I might have not commuted his sentence", he said.
OK, fine, but that's no reason to blame the prosecutors of the case, who knew that monster was a menace to himself and everyone around him.
The real fault should go to officials in Arkansas who rescinded their hold without bail policy which allowed Clemmons to post $400,000 bail with Jail Sucks Bonds (that's a real bonding company) and get out on the streets. It is those officials that will be the center of attention in the weeks ahead.
Nobody disputes Clemmons was a dirtbag and a monster. Huck-a-phony commuted the sentence of a career killer AND rapist.
Look, I don’t hate Huck. This decision is going to dog him and his supporters from here on out until he’s sick and tired of running for office. Hate is such a strong word. He never took responsibility for his own decision, instead, blaming the judge no the case and the prosecuting attorneys for failing to give him the facts and evidence of the case to make a sound judgement. If he didn’t have all the facts, then he shouldn’t have commuted the sentence of a guy who raped and murdered at the age of 18.
lulz
[if Huckabee had a crystal ball]
Yeah, I didn’t think about THAT and I know that looking at that animals history would have been too judgmental, unfair and racist.
I like Huckabee. He has got to shift right in his outlook toward a more mature (paleo?) from of conservatism if he is going to gain any real traction.
The fact of thematter simply is that the next president is going to have to cut spending even or especially of "entitlement" programs, balalnce the budget and run a planned surplus to reduce our national debt, or we will fall into bankruptcy.
That is going to require a president of Reaganesque stature; to address the people directly and overcome the dolts in Congress.
“I hope people here will stop trashing him”
The political opportunists here won’t until they are sure he can never threaten their particular candidate’s chances of winning a primary. Others here just don’t like his theology and will continue to trash him with that motivation. It won’t stop.
Many Fred heads, et. al. are still mad about the 2008 primary. They will never forgive Huckabee....and it has nothing to do with the cop killings.
I do too, but he barely skated past the Wayne Dumond controversy, and the objections against Clemmons' release were well known to him at the time of the clemency grant. If Huckabee had adopted a policy against parole for violent felons, which was within his powers as Governor, several major disasters could have been avoided. I've tried to be supportive of Huckabee, but a man's capacity for patience and understanding can only be taxed so far. He needs to refrain from future candidacies. To his credit, his record as governor was a good one - except for the clemencies - so he should just stick with that.
It's ironic that Huckabee is getting beaten up over Wayne Dumond on this forum, when about 99 percent supported Dumond's parole at the time. It was pretty lonely expressing opposition to Dumond's parole back then.
Your points are well made. Now is not the time for squishy neo-cons.
