It wasn't that long ago, Freepers liked Gov. Huckabee. It's horrific what Clements did and I'm sure if Huckabee had a crystal ball to see the future, he would not have commuted him. Clements snapped and committed those sickening crimes in WA state and was let loose with a small bail there, not Ark. and not by Huckabee. I believe his political future has been ruined by this but I hope people here will stop trashing him and remember at one time, not long ago, everyone was thrilled that his band was hosted by Free Republic in a repeat performance inaugural ball of 2004.

Facts are stubborn things.
And RINO is as RINO does.
But admittedly, appearing at a Freeper function was a shrewd move for him, PR-wise.

I don’t see many people trashing him. Reporting facts, yes, criticizing actions, yes. Deservedly so.

He deserves to be trashed. He spent ten minutes on The O'Reilly Factor essentially blaming everyone else for the deaths of those 4 cops. He didn't take one shred of responsibility and never once apologized.
"If I had known then what I know now, I might have not commuted his sentence", he said.
OK, fine, but that's no reason to blame the prosecutors of the case, who knew that monster was a menace to himself and everyone around him.

You are correct about Huckabee. People who do not like his politics are using the Clemmons commutation issue as a weapon to hit Huckabee’s future. They have not listened to Huckabee’s side of the story and will not listen if it were blasted into their ear drum. I think the vile comments directed at Mike Huckabee are unfair and there should be more truth in the matter and less knee jerk.
The real fault should go to officials in Arkansas who rescinded their hold without bail policy which allowed Clemmons to post $400,000 bail with Jail Sucks Bonds (that's a real bonding company) and get out on the streets. It is those officials that will be the center of attention in the weeks ahead.

Yeah, I didn’t think about THAT and I know that looking at that animals history would have been too judgmental, unfair and racist.

I was at both balls. I have such great memories, particularly of the first!
I like Huckabee. He has got to shift right in his outlook toward a more mature (paleo?) from of conservatism if he is going to gain any real traction.
The fact of thematter simply is that the next president is going to have to cut spending even or especially of "entitlement" programs, balalnce the budget and run a planned surplus to reduce our national debt, or we will fall into bankruptcy.
That is going to require a president of Reaganesque stature; to address the people directly and overcome the dolts in Congress.

“I hope people here will stop trashing him”
The political opportunists here won’t until they are sure he can never threaten their particular candidate’s chances of winning a primary. Others here just don’t like his theology and will continue to trash him with that motivation. It won’t stop.
Many Fred heads, et. al. are still mad about the 2008 primary. They will never forgive Huckabee....and it has nothing to do with the cop killings.
