I'm seeking help finding a new author and/or book suggestions for my daughter for Christmas. She is 12 going on 13, and very smart (gifted student, genius IQ, home-schooled.) She is moving beyond her pre-teen books.
I'm looking for books/authors that are early adult, without graphic sexual/horror situations. She enjoys mystery, history (fiction or non-fiction), adventure, and romantic comedy. She is a big fan of Brian Jacques and Gail Carson Levine.
That is the name for the 5 books of this story arc that starts with "Clan ..." so you really don't need to.
John Christopher’s The Tripods Trilogy. great books for any age!
Highimpact, don’t forget to post which book/s you ended up getting her. Whose recommendation did you take?
We have decided on the following books to start with:
Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series, including the Hobbit
The Wrinkle in Time series
Runt the Brave
Our son, age 10, is just now realizing that reading is more fun than TV and computer games. It's no longer a challenge to get him to read. These books will be shared between the two kids for many hours of entertainment.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions. We'll be revisiting this thread often when we are ready for more great reading ideas.
Happy Hanukkah & Merry Christmas! ~ Shalom
A teenager highly recommended “Knights, Maidens, and Dragon” by Julia Duin (she is a columnist). You might want to check out reviews. The stories emphasize important values.
