We have decided on the following books to start with:
Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series, including the Hobbit
The Wrinkle in Time series
Runt the Brave
Our son, age 10, is just now realizing that reading is more fun than TV and computer games. It's no longer a challenge to get him to read. These books will be shared between the two kids for many hours of entertainment.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions. We'll be revisiting this thread often when we are ready for more great reading ideas.
