This is very good.

The fact of the matter is, many hosting companies have no idea what is on their servers. It’s often not out of maliciousness that this kind of material is on their servers, but the whole process is automated so as long as someone’s credit card goes through properly, no human ever really interacts with the content unless there is a technical support problem.

I’ve notified webhosts about spam sites and malware sites, and more often than not, once the webhost realizes who their customer is, they immediately terminate them. Keep the list coming. Once you find who the webhost is, send an email to their Terms of Service Abuse office if they have one with a link to the offending website.

Also, please post links to the webhosts once you identify them; their postal address won’t really do us any good.

Sample email:

Dear BlueHost,

It has come to my attention that you are hosting [whatever]. This is a terrorist propaganda website that encourages the killing of American soldiers. I believe that this is a violation of your Terms of Service agreement that prohibits illegal content.

Best regards,

Strange, all the BlueHost ones when I tried them either 404’d or directed to a page with big Arabic text that translates to: We will be back soon.

I’m using Google Translate on these pages. Here’s the URL for As Ansar. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.as-ansar.com%2Fvb

Maybe someone pulled the plug already on the BlueHost ones? I haven’t tried the others yet.

ADDING to post no. 1:

“MEMRI: Shutting Down Cyber Jihad Really Not All that Hard”

SNIPPET: “Two things to note. First, of the five forums let me give a shout out to the akhi at Hanein and Ansar. You know who you are.

Second, we love MEMRI, so we’ll overlook the fact that they get a few details wrong. Like, that RIPE is not a host. As our own Black Flag put this in an email:

“RIPE” does not host web sites, from the RIPE homepage:
“The RIPE NCC is one of five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) providing Internet resource allocations, registration services and co-ordination activities that support the operation of the Internet globally”
In short, RIPE provides blocks of IP addresses to other organizations. IAISITE.Net for example is not hosted by RIPE, it’s hosted in a datacenter in Turkey.

Note to MEMRI: Use a better Whois search next time. I like SamSpade, but even that isn’t foolproof.

As a parting thought let me note that I said in the headline that shutting down the cyber jihad really isn’t all that difficult. It isn’t. However, there may be valuable information at forums like these. Intel and law enforcement would do well to weigh the pros and cons of shutting down Islamist forums.”

A bit off topic, but since one of the jihad forums are mentioned on post no. 1, I’m adding it here.
