CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Cortland man is in custody after police say he beat a man that had broken into his apartment. Police say Robbin Brill, 50, returned home Sunday evening and found a man inside attempting to steal money.
They say Brill confronted the man and then beat him with his fists and a brick. Brill then called 911, and the man was taken to University Hospital where he is in critical condition.
Brill has been charged with assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon. He was sent to the Cortland County Jail and has since posted bail.
Someone breaks in my house, I’m not messing with him.
Because that means he hopped an electric barbed wire fence, walked through a field of grumpy bulls, got past two dogs that can hear a pin drop a mile away, noticed a homemade shooting range but kept walking anyway, and got in my house before I had a chance to grab any assortment of handguns, rifles or shotguns that are 10 feet away from my bed.
He’s either a ninja or just plain crazy.
The ACLU is probably already talking with the perp that got beat by the brick....

The assumption that someone who comes home and finds their hard earned belongings and money being stolen is going to be rational about defending their livelihood is sadly ridiculous.
The robber had it coming to him.
An excellent opportunity for jury nulification
Brick is a deadly weapon? I thought the jury in the Reginald Denny case ruled that is not the case. Remember that one? Guys seen on tape beating Denny with bricks during the LA riot of 1992 and they were convicted on some lesser charge. Rush made a big deal of it at the time, saying “bricks are not considered deadly weapons!”

Could the intruder be a jilted lover, former roommate, or other acquaintance? Maybe the guy was trying to get back his own property. There are many details missing.

You mean a “brick” of ammo? I’m all for dead checks, but a brick might be a bit much. You have to pay for that stuff, you know?
