Alec Baldwin considers entire film career a 'complete failure'

Alec Baldwin, the US actor, has said he has lost interest in acting and considers his film career a failure.

"I consider my entire movie career a complete failure," he told the magazine. "The goal of moviemaking is to star in a film where your performance drives the film, and the film is either a soaring critical or commercial success, and I never had that."

Baldwin has expressed interest in politics in the past but did not say in the interview what he intended to do if he quit acting.

No. No no no. You see, what Mr. Baldwin said RIGHT THERE is the entire problem, both with his attitude and with Hollywood as a whole.

The goal of movie making, at least GOOD movie making, is to tell a compelling story. A good movie should be bigger than its individual parts - it should be art in sound, light, and motion. There was a time when this was the primary focus and we had wonderful films with actual artistic merit. These days we have trash that is meticulously calculated to draw in the biggest crowds possible, trash that is populated with people like Mr. Baldwin who would otherwise have talent were they not solely in it for the money, the prestige, and the accolades.

At the root of it is the sort of self-important narcissism you will find behind the actions of most liberals in this country.

His goals are questionable.

His goal as a STAR might be to have a plot driven by his character and have it be a commercial and/or critical success.

As an actor his goal should be to put in a good and convincing performance that touches in some way upon the human condition.

As a father his goal should be to not call his daughter a fat worthless pig.

He was good in “The Getaway” (classic remake — great movie)

... but Kim Basinger was better (hotness counts)

As a resident of the “Gaypublic of Drugifornia,” I have to agree with you. Jack Donaghy is the new Denny Crane.

We both had the same impulse. His goal was the problem, thus he failed.

"I consider my entire movie career a complete failure," he told the magazine.

See, I am truly blessed!     Things just keep happening to make my heart soar!     Life is good and I am rich beyond my wildest dreams!

I only remember him on SNL as a scoutmaster having inappropriate contact with Adam Sandler. Oh, yeah, big laughs.
And "The Mimic" which killed its own joke quickly.

I think the only film I ever saw the guy in was 'Hunt for Red October' where he played the main character. But an old, bald Sean Connery (not the best actor in history by any measure) easily sold the movie, even with a lame Scottish/Russian accent.

A good movie should be bigger than its individual parts Sometimes the lesser roles are as important as the stars. Actually, my favorite performance from Red October was the sub skipper. Never been on a sub, but he seemed quintessential - unflappable, hyperfocused, command presence, never needed to raise his voice. Sailors, too. I often wondered if they used Navy in the bit parts.
