Charlie Weis is out as Notre Dame head football coach, a source close to the program told the Daily News.

AD Jack Swarbrick has decided to make a change after Weis finished the season with a 6-6 record and four straight losses to Navy, Pitt, Connecticut and Stanford.

Weis coached Notre Dame for five years and leaves with a 35-27 record. He has told friends in South Bend he has at least six offers from NFL teams to become their offensive coordinator.

Nope. USC’s average SAT score is a 1315, Notre Dame’s is 1355.

I like Stoops and I like Oklahoma. Don't know why, I just do. I was not at all surprised that Oklahoma crushed OSU Sat. They're capable of doing that to anyone.

I told my daughter (another football fan) I was glad Iowa doesn't have to play OK.

He has a good program going there and he doesn't have to rebuild. I want him to stay in OK. Do you suppose he cares? :)

that seems to be the old scoring method. now the SAT is out of 2400 points i believe. and ND is 40 points higher anyway.

these facts remain: the best high school football team are in florida, california, and texas. then you have ohio, illinois, pennsylvania.

these kids usually stay in-state. that is why the USC's, the Florida's, the Texas's are always ranked very high.

schools like ND cannot compete anymore. you take a 17 year old black kid from california and show him ND. he's never seen snow except on tv, and the only blacks he sees at ND are other football players.

then take him to USC. sun, girls, no problem getting past the academic committee, and closer to mom.

i can't remember the last ND linebacker to get drafted, while USC had four drafted last year. one of them didn't even start at USC!

“USC accepts 21.9% of applicants and Note Dame accepts 26.7%”

Just out of curiousity, how many total applicants for USC vs. ND?

Although the real issue is football players SATs and GPA.

I don’t know about total applicants, but USC has 33,408 students and ND has 10,800, so when you start comparing averages to things like SAT scores USC has pretty impressive academic numbers vis-a-vis Notre Dame; there is not this imagined overwhelming disparity.

Those are 2004 numbers, and USC’s academic standards have improved since then. My point was that a 40 point average SAT score difference between these schools is not that substantial considering that ND is averaging 1/3 of the amount of students - USC has total enrollment of over 33,000, while ND has just under 11,000. California does have a great in-state athlete base, but few schools have the kind of national reputation and fan-base that Notre Dame has...it should be able to compete with ease and used to quite effectively. Schools go through slumps, USC went through one, and ND is currently going through one. I expect ND to back in the game soon enough, and would be hugely disappointed if they weren’t.

When I was between 6 and 15 then again between 21 and 24 I lived in N. Hollywood. Ocationally I’d drive from the valley the old road to Malibu and coming out of the canyon and overlooking Pepperdine with some flower nursery on the left was one of the most beautiful sights in the world.
Guess that tulip nursery is s bunch of damned condos now.
Still a very good education if you can get your head glued in to your studies.
Better Minot.

I'm not surprised it happened.

If anyone has been listening to ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd for the last eight weeks, he noted that between:

1) Notre Dame's high academic standards.
2) The middle of nowhere location of South Bend, IN.
3) Very cold winters.

It's small wonder why all the "blue chip" recruits are going to USC, Texas, and the SEC schools.

Actually, my point is that data is irrelevant.

What is valid in this discussion is SAT and HS GPA of football athletes.

I can assure you that ND’s is much more stringent.

I went to my first OU game..( and first college game ever..) this year.

Gee whiz, Osage. Glad you could do it.

I was at OU at the start of the Bud Wilkinson era. Never missed a home game and was a complete Wilkinson fan.

It hurts to have a little down season, but my gosh, OU has given its football fans more to cheer than any other college team for more than a half-century now.

Stoops is a world class coach, and he can coach there forever so far as I'm concerned.

They'll be back next year.

Moved to OK...and became a OU fan...and I am a OSU fan too. Although I root for OU when they are playing OSU....Ha!

Anyway....good friend invited me to the OU / TU game...and had a blast!!

Lot's of fun!!

Thanks-

Attention ...Baltimore Ravens..Cam Cameron sucks, he refuses to run the ball with Ray Rice...note 156 yards rushing by Rice last night while totally killing drives by passing on 1st down consistently...and then running on 2nd and 10... Ravens are a contender without an Offensive Coordinator. Weiss is available.

The Ravens are going to miss the playoffs and I think their season can be summed up in one series. Fourth quarter against the Colts, first and goal from the two. Two straight-ahead runs into the line, and a QB sneak by Flacco, none of which were successful. No misdirection, no roll-outs, no fakes, no play action. I sat there and said out loud to no one in particular who the heck is calling these plays? Anyway they settle for a FG and go on to lose by three.
