I see my image numbers don’t match the table of contents. There are four #2’s. Sorry. I’m sure you can figure it out.

It's fascinating to read the box scores. The linesman in the Bears/Cardinals game was the immortal Irv Kupcinet--later a columnist for the Chicago Sun Times and "analysist" (I use the term loosely) for the Bears' WGN broadcasts in the late 50's and throughout the 60's. If you could figure out what was happening on the field by the descriptions of Kupcinet and Jack Brickhouse . . . well, you may have BEEN on drugs or may have NEEDED drugs.
Irv did correct Brickhouse once, however, when Jack moaned, "Oh, that's a terrible punt--off the side of his foot and out of bounds. Only good for ten yards." Kupcinet then broke in: "Jack, it was a fake punt and Bobby Jo threw a pass which went over the receiver's head and out of bounds."

Good one. Thanks for the story.
I guess ours is not the first generation to complain about sports announcers belaboring the obvious and missing important details.

Looks like we kept it close against Green Bay. I don’t think I could have asked for more than that.
