For the troops, a meaty taste of home

POWELL — For a few dozen members of the U.S. military who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, a taste of Wyoming is never far away, thanks to a butcher who has shipped more than 10,000 pounds of jerky to troops since 2003.

“This is wild game from the mountains of Wyoming,” said Roger Beslanowitch, owner of Roger’s Meat Processing, who was busy Monday preparing several trays of jerky for a trip to the smoker.

Though Beslanowitch sometimes sends beef, the abundance of game meat during hunting season means that troops from Wyoming will get wild game jerky in their next care packages.

That was more or less the end of my Thanksgiving email to friends too far away to be with.

(prefaced with a picture of the posures, fresh from their first Head of state thingy, seemingly, bored)

President Bush spent time on the phone. He CARED (and from the recent at FT HOOD, still does, more so than the current occupant)

Thanks..... I mangled it. GW and Rummy would fly into Baghdad for a big surprise on Thanksgiving and other occasions. Or see the troops in other places for a Christmas visit or other times

0 will be out golfing at Camp David and pumping iron to get buffed... get his chest hairs shaved too for that buffy the metrosexual look

owner of Roger’s Meat Processing

Meat processing plants. That is where the all-American, flag waving, God, mom and apple pie stuff is made. No hoity toity, phony-baloney charcuterie crap for our troops.

On the tv news this week, there was a story about a mobile butcher who is planning to expand his business. Not a bad idea actually?

Agree with your intended thought though. Hate to think of what would happen should a 'national brand' get involved.

In Helena (MT) there are so many mule deer that they are culling them within the city. The meat is donated to local shelters.
