Whether or not the shroud was Christ’s makes no difference at all. Some Christians have made this thing an idol. It makes no difference to the Biblical record.

This text/not-text thing is a weird distraction. This is Christ's burial shroud, and that's His blood on it.
The marks, bloodtype, pulmonary fluid stains and Gundelia tournefortii pollen on the Sudarium of Oviedo (the facecloth) match those on the Shroud, and the Sudarium has a well-attested provenance going back to the 3rd, or even 1st Century.
The Sudarium therefore extends the provenance of the Shroud way back before the 13th century, which is the date of the burnmark Carbon-dating data.
