Sporting News fans love to argue over their favorite football announcers. Reporters and editors from Sporting News and SportsBusiness Journal/SportsBusiness Daily do too, and have come together to produce their list of the Top 25 Football Broadcasters.
Gary Danielson named top football broadcaster.CBS college football analyst Gary Danielson leads the list, followed by Cris Collinsworth and Al Michaels of NBC's "Sunday Night Football."
All active television play-by-play broadcasters and analysts in pro and college football were considered for the list.

What happened to Howard Cossell?
He’s dead Jim.
ML/NJ
I always liked Brent Musberger and Keith Jackson, although they do college.
ESPN’s old Sunday Night crew was good: Joe Theisman, Paul McGuire, and Mike Patrick
Joe Buck should not be on the list.
Keith Jackson
Al Michaels
Pat Summerall
Don Criqui
Frank Gifford
I like Criqui a lot. Too bad he stuck broadcasting meaningless ND games on the radio. But I guess it’s a nice check.
YES !
Cris Collinsworth ha ha ha ha ha !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is that what he's doing, now? He's a true professional.
I like him even less since he became a lawyer.
I agree. Most Labradors could do a better job.
My all time favorite was Keith Jackson. No one else was even close. Most of them are OK.
I could not stand Howard Cosell as a person but he was a good announcer.
yarddog,
I agree on both points. Cosell thought he knew everything but, to any of us who actually played the game, he knew nothing. Keith Jackson just sounded like football and will always represent Oklahoma/Nebraska games to me.
A guy I’m beginning to like a lot as an NFL color-man is John Lynch. He’s raw as all get out as an announcer but full of actual game knowledge and knows most of the players. Sometimes he gets to talking too “technical” which most casual fans don’t like but as a coach, wow, I love it.
I’m not a ND fan in any way but I thought Tony Roberts was outstanding....best radio voice for football that I’ve heard.
He was a homer no doubt and I thought he had a job for life but they ran him off for some reason. Perhaps he was too honest as he railed against all the timeouts and delays that made NCAA games as long as NFL games.
I’ll never forget his blast against instant replay: “This is ridiculous....they make the referee stick his head behind a curtain that belongs at a peep show!”
that blowdried loser just always seems to get in a story about when HE was playing and what HE would do.
and he is so freakin negative. he like the cowboys and the bengals and maybe the packers. and that's it.
Brings back memories of my youth. Saturday afternoons in the winter at 3:00, Chris would do the Pro Bowlers Tour, followed at 4:30 by Jim McKay and Wide World of Sports.
