Police Officer Uses Taser On 10-Year-Old Girl

OZARK, Ark. -- Ozark police said they were called to a home where a mother asked for help with her unruly child, but the 10-year-old's father said he's outraged at the force police used against his daughter.

"I would like to say Ozark police Tased this little girl right here. Ten years old and [they] shot electricity through her body, and I want to know how the heck in God's green earth can they get away with this," said the girl's father, Anthony Medlock.

Medlock said his daughter was at her mother's house when Ozark police Officer Dustin Bradshaw shocked her in the back with a Taser and arrested her.

"If you can't pick the kid up and take her to your car, handcuff her, then I don't think you need to be an officer," Medlock said.

Medlock said his daughter does show signs of having emotional issues, but she "doesn't deserve to be treated like a dog. She's not a tiger."

According to a police report, the officer was called to the home by the mother and witnessed the child kicking and screaming.

The officer's statement said the girl's mother, Kelly Hamlert, told him to use a Taser on her if he needed to.

The officer did shock the girl after he said she kicked him in the groin.

"He had no other choice. He had to get the child under control," said Ozark police Chief Jim Noggle.

Noggle said the officer shocked the girl for about a second.

Ozark police said it is their policy to use a Taser on someone who is a threat to others, no matter their age.

Noggle said simply restraining the child could be harmful.

"Well, if he tried to restrain her, he might hurt her by restraining her. If you grab somebody, you can slip an arm out of joint. They can slip from you and fall on the ground," Noggle said.

"I don't know what kind of policy it is. I don't think it's right," Medlock said.

Medlock said this is not the first time the girl's mother has called police to take her daughter to a juvenile facility. He said he will now try to get custody of his daughter.

"She just wants somebody to love her, and I do," he said.

40/29 News checked with several other police agencies about their taser policies. The Fort Smith Police Department said it will only uses a Taser on a person 14 years old or older if they are a threat to someone.

Fort Smith Police said it's usually the discretion of each police department to make their own policies on using a Taser.

Noggle said no action is being taken against the Ozark officer who used the Taser on the girl, and he said her case will go before the juvenile court system.

I really feel for the folks in law enforcement these days that have to respond to domestic calls. They don’t issue family jewel cups do they these days? They may have to.

Danged if you do, danged if you don’t.

I have never been a fan of tasers, but if I had to choose between that and a baton or firearm, .. I’d just comply with the instructions of the officer.

Your assertion that a marriage to a woman who has the police tazer a 10 year old broke up because of the man comes from where, exactly?

Not being able to keep a marriage going twith someone like that has zero rellevance to his love for his child.

It happens all the time all over the country; part of our nanny state culture, you see.

There is a large segment of the population of the USA that is truly f****d up. Probably considerable overlap with that segment that votes for a living rather than works for a living.

So I guess it's alright for the parent to taze their out of control children. Yes sir! Electronics are our servant.

Arkansas Police Use Taser on 10-Year-Old Girl

From the Fox News link:Bradshaw carried the girl to the living room and told her she was going to jail, according to the report. The girl was violently kicking, the report said, and struck Bradshaw in the groin with her legs and feet.

Yeah. That would calm an hysterical 10 year old.

It is not unusual for parents to find fault with authority that they have called in to control a situation that they are helpless to control. They seem to take glee out of calling other people down who are only trying to subdue an out of control child.

If they knew what it took to control the child, they should have done it themselves.

Obviously the parents didn't know what it took, but they certainly knew what it didn't take.

Could a spanking have helped the child to understand that bad behavior has consequences?

She certainly hasn't learned anything about respecting authority with the parents going after the police.

Parenting classes are in order for the parents and maybe they ought to put their own agenda aside and be unified in their love, support and discipline of the child.

“If you can’t pick the kid up and take her to your car, handcuff her, then I don’t think you need to be an officer,” Medlock said.

Well, I say, “If you can’t pick the kid up, pop their rear end and send them to their room, then I don’t think you should be a parent.”

It is not unusual for parents to find fault with authority that they have called in to control a situation that they are helpless to control. They seem to take glee out of calling other people down who are only trying to subdue an out of control child.

It isn't the "parentS" finding fault with the police; it is the FATHER, who was not present when the mother called the police. We don't know whether or not the father was helpless to control the situation; he apparently wasn't given the opportunity. And the father is certainly not taking any glee in the situation, but outrage over the fact that an adult male with police training could not manage to get a ten-year-old little girl under control without resorting to the use of a taser.

There is no mention anywhere in the article that the mother who called the police has voiced any criticism of the policeman's use of the taser. In fact, according to the article, she told the officer to use his taser if he needed to. So your basic premise about this being an example of "parents to find fault with authority that they have called in to control a situation that they are helpless to control" seems to lack any basis whatsoever in fact.

Just call Super Nanny. She'll put the girl on the naughty-step... LOL ...

I picked up on that right away. Real easy for daddy - WHO IS NOT IN THE HOME - to be crying about how they tasered his baby.

The kid has serious problems. Either she is insanely violent and uncontrolable to the point of the mom having to call the police or the kid is in the custody of an evil witch who torments the kid into hysteria and likes seeing the police torture her child. She egged the cop on to torture her own child. Or it could be the kids is so insane that she can not be controled by normal measures.

If the kid is insane, she needs to to go a treatment facility for the mentally ill. If the mom is wacked, the dad needs to take the kid away from her and get the kid treatment.
