Hollywood studios are now thinking twice about splurging on A-list movie stars and costly productions in reaction to the poor economy, but also because of the surprising success of recent films with unknown actors.

Even Bruce has an off day once in a while:
Hudson Hawk
The Last Boy Scout
Striking Distance
Color of the Night
Live Free or Die Hard (aka Die Hard 4.)
It did in the past, but now that we know their political leanings and see them at political gatherings too often and on talk shows spouting nonsense we don’t wish to spend money watching them on the “silver screen” anymore. Maybe they will gert a clue, maybe not.
2012’s ONLY saving grace is the extended Death of Los Angeles scene. I suspect people will watch it over and over again, like the Chariot Race in “Ben-Hur”.
Yes, but you were only making 60 cents an hour back then.
I'm no Trekkie, would not have been interested in the movie otherwise, but man, that had to be a big disappointment to those long-time fans, a more loyal bunch I've yet to see, but for maybe the old bobby-soxer of Sinatra's days. Considering how much potential that thing had, that's a shame.
Speaking of Australia, is Nicole Kidman on the A-list? Because I rented that movie thinking it had to be good, with her, Hugh Jackman, I thought surely we were in for some kind of historical novel-film, perhaps a bit of the story on how Australia came into being. Boy, was I wrong. This movie was one of the worst things I've ever put out a dollar for, in fact, I requested a refund/substitute for renting it. Phewwww, it stunk!!
It was better than any of the earlier ST films. More cinematic with better character development.
You're kidding, right? All they did was mash together all of the behavioral cliches from TOS and shove them into a craptastic mess of a story that doesn't hold an ounce of water.
He played the role of Bruce's older brother, and he set Bruce up for the date with Kim Bassinger.
Great movie!
My wife and middle son watched and hated it.... Middle son trenchantly observed that there were two problems with it. First, they clearly couldn't decide on how to end it, so they shoved all of the endings into it instead. And, second, they were clearly trying to make a political point, and couldn't figure out the right way to do that, either ... which is probably why they had to keep adding endings.
If Bruce Willis is in a movie, he himself is fun and entertaining unless the movie is such a stinker that he can’t overcome the anchor around his neck.
And yes, he has been in some real stinkers.
The other night, Mrs WBill and I picked up a movie from RedBox, popped some corn, and had a "Date".
$1 for the movie. A few cents for the popcorn (extra real butter and just a smidge of salt, which I like). Total cost: A Buck and Change.
We went to the theater once earlier this year. $9 each for tickets. $3 or so for Cokes. $5 for popcorn (artificial butter flavoring, and extra salt, neither of which I'm particularly fond of but I always get when I go to the movies because I remember it better than it actually is.... :-) ). Total cost: 30 bucks.
The movie was ok ("Star Trek"), but really, we were more paying for a kid-free night out.
I wonder how many people go to movies because they think it's somehow "better", how many go just to get out of the house (like wife and I), and how many go just because they don't know any better?
Thanks for reminding me of his name. He’s definitely an excellent actor.
It was about the qualities needed to be a leader. It was witty, exciting and moving. Orson Scott Card called it one of the best adventure films of all time.
Lousy movie, but everyone in it looked like they were having so much fun. Like, "Wow, this script really stinks. Let's just enjoy ourselves."
I still sing "Swingin' on a Star" when I want to time a computer process that I'm running. :-)
My husband and I are like you. We never go to the theater. No movie is so great that it can’t wait until a DVD release.
We enjoy going to drive-ins in the summer. We have one about 30 minutes from us...it’s a great night out, get 2 new releases for $6/person, can bring your own food and get to enjoy the nice night time weather.
And I like Sam Elliot in just about anything he does.
Well, then I guess that makes two of us. I think it's one of the funniest nonsense-type slapstick movies in my video library. They certainly look like they're having fun making the movie, especially James Coburn reprising his "Our Man Flint" role beyond all recognition...
Sound and picture are lousy, but you get a double feature for 10 bucks or so a car. And, you can take a picnic. Good way to spend a summer evening. :-)
It's just 2 hours of entertainment. Doesn't bog you down with a lot of details, either.
And, it has David Caruso in it. Anything with "Carusitas" *, has got to be extra cheesy.
*Carusitas = David Caruso trying to have much more gravitas than he actually has. Like on CSI.....he starts a sentence, makes a dramatic pause while taking off his sunglasses for added emphasis....then finishes the sentence.
look it up, there's entire you tube videos that consist of Carusitas. :-)
In the question and answer part of the Sunday magazine people ask questions about “personalities.” I don’t even know who most of these people are. I guess I must be getting old!
