This is a test. A test of the brilliance, perseverance and perspicacity of the tech gurus here on FR.
Whoever gets me working again will get a $20 donation to FR in his/her name.
I have a box I built about two years ago that has Windows XP SP3 on it.
I used to be able to hook up my Canon ZR80 camcorder to it and capture video. I have used Pinnacle's Studio 9 and also Windows Movie Maker.
I haven't tried to capture video in a while and yesterday, well, you guessed it. It wouldn't work. My PC will not detect my camera. I have no other firewire devices to test the cable but I don't think that's the problem because there are other people out there with this problem.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my firewire card. I have tried everything I can think of it will not work.
I have since tried rolling back to SP2. Still no good.
In PC Wizard the info for the Firewire card is as follows:
Bus Information #4 : Device : FW322/323 IEEE1394 OHCI FireWire Controller Device : RT8139 (A/B/C/810x/813x/C+) Fast Ethernet Adapter
The device comes up good in Device Manager.
During my searches I have come across many instances in many forums about this very problem. Apparently the new drivers in SP2 and SP2 create problems in detecting firewire devices. Not all just some.
Microsoft has no fix to this that I can find. Canon does not supply drivers for that camcorder anymore.
My wife taped some things on her vacation with our sons that we want to capture but I cannot.
I tried reloading Pinnacle last night but it still doesn't work.
I am hoping there is someone in FR tech land that can help me.
Thanks your your time.
Oh, and you Mac guys, keep the bashing to a minimum. As they say, "If you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem."
Help!
Did you try all your USB ports?
Did you try doing a “system restore” to an earlier date yet?
Don’t worry. Many of us will never buy a Mac after their insulting “I’m cooler than you” commercials. They can go be cool all they want, but not with my money.
If that doesn't work. Check your manufacturers website for updated drivers. Download the latest drivers.
Uninstall the device from device manager.
Download Revo uninstaller and run it to see if your device is shown in the list. If so use Revo to remove it.
Shut down your PC. Remove the firewire card.
Restart your PC. Shutdown again after rebooting and making sure that no 1394 anything is shown (check network connections)
Re-install your card in a different slot if possible. Restart. Do not allow automatic installation. Install using the new drivers you downloaded.
It's Firewire not USB.
Revo Uninstaller rules. Good suggestion. I used Your Uninstaller for a long time, until I found Revo Uninstaller.
Try uninstalling the card/drivers from Device Manager while in Safe Mode, and then reinstall them after booting. Sometimes there will be multiple entries that will ONLY show up in Device Manager while in Safe Mode. It may have looked like it was uninstalled before, but it really wasn’t.
Did all of that. I don’t know how to stop XP from automatically loading the drivers. There are no drivers available from Canon for the camcorder.
Try bringing up movie maker as if the device has been recognized and do a capture anyway. The device manager may see it but not pop up a dialogue that asks what you want to do. Instead of waiting for a dialogue when you plug in the firewire, just assume the OS sees it and start a capture anyway from an already started movie maker or your favorite capture program manually.
Did you check the Canon website for drivers?
I tried that. When I click on capture it says, "Video capture device not detected...."
The PC is not recognizing the camera. I know it's driver related problem. In the many forums I lurked yesterday there seems to be no solution.
There is this that I forgot to include in the thread post:
Just incase anyone is reading this , i have it working now. Had to
work the SP1 Firewire drivers in.
Go to C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386 in the sp1 cab copy out the
following files
1394bus.sys
arp1394.sys
nic1394.sys
ohci1394.sys
replace the new versions of them in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
and C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers
reboot
this should fix it.
Thanks to adam in MS Forums From here.
I can't change the drivers without XP automatically reverting them.
Yes.
Isn't that sort of like asking me if I'm logged in? 8^)
There’s no drivers. You’re right. I just checked.
Save your time and effort, upgrade to Windows 7. You will be a lot happier in the long run.
Thanks, I actually still have the manual. I also dl’ed the .pdf and it doesn’t really help.
I have several videos ready to add the finishing touches, but,...
both my USB Capture devices suddenly quit in the last 2 weeks after working for years,
and neither of the PCs are connected to the web,
no updates, file transfers, none.. have tried everything but an exorcist..
BTW, both use Studio 8 upgraded to 9.4.3
hummmm.. tin foil hat time...
will remove Pinnacle studio , back date 1 year and reinstall...
it's got to work better than it does now..
