Did all of that. I don’t know how to stop XP from automatically loading the drivers. There are no drivers available from Canon for the camcorder.

Did you check the Canon website for drivers?

It should pop up a window on restart about finding new hardware and prompt you to go ahead. If it's not doing that, I'm not sure how to proceed.

The only other simple fix I can think of is to try another brand of card, making sure that the chipset is different. Fortunately, they're pretty cheap.
